Matthew 9:9-13

RSV 9 As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax office; and he said to him, "Follow me." And he rose and followed him. NIV 9 As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector's booth. "Follow me," he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him. RSV 10 And as he sat at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples. NIV 10 While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew's house, many tax collectors and "sinners" came and ate with him and his disciples. RSV 11 And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" NIV 11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and 'sinners'?" RSV 12 But when he heard it, he said, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. NIV 12 On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. RSV 13 Go and learn what this means, 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.' For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners." NIV 13 But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."
