Micah 2:6-11

RSV 6 "Do not preach" --thus they preach--"one should not preach of such things; disgrace will not overtake us." NIV 6 "Do not prophesy," their prophets say. "Do not prophesy about these things; disgrace will not overtake us." RSV 7 Should this be said, O house of Jacob? Is the Spirit of the LORD impatient? Are these his doings? Do not my words do good to him who walks uprightly? NIV 7 Should it be said, O house of Jacob: "Is the Spirit of the LORD angry? Does he do such things?" "Do not my words do good to him whose ways are upright? RSV 8 But you rise against my people as an enemy; you strip the robe from the peaceful, from those who pass by trustingly with no thought of war. NIV 8 Lately my people have risen up like an enemy. You strip off the rich robe from those who pass by without a care, like men returning from battle. RSV 9 The women of my people you drive out from their pleasant houses; from their young children you take away my glory for ever. NIV 9 You drive the women of my people from their pleasant homes. You take away my blessing from their children forever. RSV 10 Arise and go, for this is no place to rest; because of uncleanness that destroys with a grievous destruction. NIV 10 Get up, go away! For this is not your resting place, because it is defiled, it is ruined, beyond all remedy. RSV 11 If a man should go about and utter wind and lies, saying, "I will preach to you of wine and strong drink," he would be the preacher for this people! NIV 11 If a liar and deceiver comes and says, 'I will prophesy for you plenty of wine and beer,' he would be just the prophet for this people!
