Numbers 1

NLT 1 A year after Israel’s departure from Egypt, the Lord spoke to Moses in the Tabernacle in the wilderness of Sinai. On the first day of the second month of that year he said,  NIV 1 The LORD spoke to Moses in the Tent of Meeting in the Desert of Sinai on the first day of the second month of the second year after the Israelites came out of Egypt. He said: NLT 2 “From the whole community of Israel, record the names of all the warriors by their clans and families. List all the men NIV 2 "Take a census of the whole Israelite community by their clans and families, listing every man by name, one by one. NLT 3  twenty years old or older who are able to go to war. You and Aaron must register the troops, NIV 3 You and Aaron are to number by their divisions all the men in Israel twenty years old or more who are able to serve in the army. NLT 4  and you will be assisted by one family leader from each tribe. NIV 4 One man from each tribe, each the head of his family, is to help you. NLT 5 “These are the tribes and the names of the leaders who will assist you: Reuben Elizur son of Shedeur NIV 5 These are the names of the men who are to assist you: from Reuben, Elizur son of Shedeur; NLT 6 Simeon Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai NIV 6 from Simeon, Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai; NLT 7 Judah Nahshon son of Amminadab NIV 7 from Judah, Nahshon son of Amminadab; NLT 8 Issachar Nethanel son of Zuar NIV 8 from Issachar, Nethanel son of Zuar; NLT 9 Zebulun Eliab son of Helon NIV 9 from Zebulun, Eliab son of Helon; NLT 10 Ephraim son of Joseph Elishama son of Ammihud Manasseh son of Joseph Gamaliel son of Pedahzur NIV 10 from the sons of Joseph: from Ephraim, Elishama son of Ammihud; from Manasseh, Gamaliel son of Pedahzur; NLT 11 Benjamin Abidan son of Gideoni NIV 11 from Benjamin, Abidan son of Gideoni; NLT 12 Dan Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai NIV 12 from Dan, Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai; NLT 13 Asher Pagiel son of Ocran NIV 13 from Asher, Pagiel son of Ocran; NLT 14 Gad Eliasaph son of Deuel NIV 14 from Gad, Eliasaph son of Deuel; NLT 15 Naphtali Ahira son of Enan NIV 15 from Naphtali, Ahira son of Enan." NLT 16  These are the chosen leaders of the community, the leaders of their ancestral tribes, the heads of the clans of Israel.” NIV 16 These were the men appointed from the community, the leaders of their ancestral tribes. They were the heads of the clans of Israel. NLT 17  So Moses and Aaron called together these chosen leaders,  NIV 17 Moses and Aaron took these men whose names had been given, NLT 18 and they assembled the whole community of Israel on that very day. All the people were registered according to their ancestry by their clans and families. The men of Israel who were twenty years old or older were listed one by one, NIV 18 and they called the whole community together on the first day of the second month. The people indicated their ancestry by their clans and families, and the men twenty years old or more were listed by name, one by one, NLT 19 just as the Lord had commanded Moses. NIV 45 All the Israelites twenty years old or more who were able to serve in Israel's army were counted according to their families. NLT 46 The total number was 603,550. NIV 46 The total number was 603,550. NLT 47 But this total did not include the Levites.  NIV 47 The families of the tribe of Levi, however, were not counted along with the others. NLT 48 For the Lord had said to Moses, NIV 48 The LORD had said to Moses: NLT 49 “Do not include the tribe of Levi in the registration; do not count them with the rest of the Israelites. NIV 49 "You must not count the tribe of Levi or include them in the census of the other Israelites. NLT 50 Put the Levites in charge of the Tabernacle of the Covenant, along with all its furnishings and equipment. They must carry the Tabernacle and all its furnishings as you travel, and they must take care of it and camp around it.  NIV 50 Instead, appoint the Levites to be in charge of the tabernacle of the Testimony--over all its furnishings and everything belonging to it. They are to carry the tabernacle and all its furnishings; they are to take care of it and encamp around it. NLT 51 Whenever it is time for the Tabernacle to move, the Levites will take it down. The Levites are responsible to stand guard around the Tabernacle.” NIV 53 The Levites, however, are to set up their tents around the tabernacle of the Testimony so that wrath will not fall on the Israelite community. The Levites are to be responsible for the care of the tabernacle of the Testimony." NLT 54 So the Israelites did everything just as the Lord had commanded Moses. NIV 54 The Israelites did all this just as the LORD commanded Moses.
