YLT 1 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tent of meeting, on the first of the second month, in the second year of their going out of the land of Egypt, saying: NIV 1 The LORD spoke to Moses in the Tent of Meeting in the Desert of Sinai on the first day of the second month of the second year after the Israelites came out of Egypt. He said: YLT 2 `Take ye up the sum of all the company of the sons of Israel by their families, by the house of their fathers, in the number of names -- every male by their polls; NIV 2 "Take a census of the whole Israelite community by their clans and families, listing every man by name, one by one. YLT 3 from a son of twenty years and upward, every one going out to the host in Israel, ye do number them by their hosts, thou and Aaron; NIV 3 You and Aaron are to number by their divisions all the men in Israel twenty years old or more who are able to serve in the army. YLT 4 and with you there is a man for a tribe, each is a head to the house of his fathers. NIV 4 One man from each tribe, each the head of his family, is to help you. YLT 5 `And these [are] the names of the men who stand with you: `For Reuben -- Elizur son of Shedeur. NIV 5 These are the names of the men who are to assist you: from Reuben, Elizur son of Shedeur; YLT 6 `For Simeon -- Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai. NIV 6 from Simeon, Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai; YLT 7 `For Judah -- Nahshon son of Amminadab. NIV 7 from Judah, Nahshon son of Amminadab; YLT 8 `For Issachar -- Nathaneel son of Zuar. NIV 15 from Naphtali, Ahira son of Enan." YLT 16 These [are] those called of the company, princes of the tribes of their fathers; they [are] heads of the thousands of Israel. NIV 16 These were the men appointed from the community, the leaders of their ancestral tribes. They were the heads of the clans of Israel. YLT 17 And Moses taketh -- Aaron also -- these men, who were defined by name, NIV 17 Moses and Aaron took these men whose names had been given, YLT 18 and all the company they assembled on the first of the second month, and they declare their births, by their families, by the house of their fathers, in the number of names from a son of twenty years and upward, by their polls, NIV 18 and they called the whole community together on the first day of the second month. The people indicated their ancestry by their clans and families, and the men twenty years old or more were listed by name, one by one, YLT 19 as Jehovah hath commanded Moses; and he numbereth them in the wilderness of Sinai. NIV 19 as the LORD commanded Moses. And so he counted them in the Desert of Sinai: YLT 20 And the sons of Reuben, Israel's first-born -- their births, by their families, by the house of their fathers, in the number of names, by their polls, every male from a son of twenty years and upward, every one going out to the host -- NIV 20 From the descendants of Reuben the firstborn son of Israel: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, one by one, according to the records of their clans and families. YLT 21 their numbered ones, for the tribe of Reuben, are six and forty thousand and five hundred. NIV 21 The number from the tribe of Reuben was 46,500. YLT 22 Of the sons of Simeon -- their births, by their families, by the house of their fathers, its numbered ones in the number of names, by their polls, every male from a son of twenty years and upward, every one going out to the host -- NIV 22 From the descendants of Simeon: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were counted and listed by name, one by one, according to the records of their clans and families. YLT 23 their numbered ones, for the tribe of Simeon, [are] nine and fifty thousand and three hundred. NIV 23 The number from the tribe of Simeon was 59,300. YLT 24 Of the sons of Gad -- their births, by their families, by the house of their fathers, in the number of names, from a son of twenty years and upward, every one going out to the host -- NIV 24 From the descendants of Gad: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. YLT 25 their numbered ones, for the tribe of Gad, [are] five and forty thousand and six hundred and fifty. NIV 25 The number from the tribe of Gad was 45,650. YLT 26 Of the sons of Judah -- their births, by their families, by the house of their fathers, in the number of names, from a son of twenty years and upward, every one going out to the host -- NIV 26 From the descendants of Judah: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. YLT 27 their numbered ones, for the tribe of Judah, [are] four and seventy thousand and six hundred. NIV 27 The number from the tribe of Judah was 74,600. YLT 28 Of the sons of Issachar -- their births, by their families, by the house of their fathers, in the number of names, from a son of twenty years and upward, every one going out to the host -- NIV 28 From the descendants of Issachar: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. YLT 29 their numbered ones, for the tribe of Issachar, [are] four and fifty thousand and four hundred. NIV 29 The number from the tribe of Issachar was 54,400. YLT 30 Of the sons of Zebulun -- their births, by their families, by the house of their fathers, in the number of names, from a son of twenty years and upward, every one going out to the host -- NIV 30 From the descendants of Zebulun: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. YLT 31 their numbered ones, for the tribe of Zebulun, [are] seven and fifty thousand and four hundred. NIV 31 The number from the tribe of Zebulun was 57,400. YLT 32 Of the sons of Joseph -- of the sons of Ephraim -- their births, by their families, by the house of their fathers, in the number of names, from a son of twenty years and upward, every one going out to the host -- NIV 32 From the sons of Joseph: From the descendants of Ephraim: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. YLT 33 their numbered ones, for the tribe of Ephraim, [are] forty thousand and five hundred. NIV 33 The number from the tribe of Ephraim was 40,500. YLT 34 Of the sons of Manasseh -- their births, by their families, by the house of their fathers, in the number of names, from a son of twenty years and upward, every one going out to the host -- NIV 34 From the descendants of Manasseh: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. YLT 35 their numbered ones, for the tribe of Manasseh, [are] two and thirty thousand and two hundred. NIV 35 The number from the tribe of Manasseh was 32,200. YLT 36 Of the sons of Benjamin -- their births, by their families, by the house of their fathers, in the number of names, from a son of twenty years and upward, every one going out to the host -- NIV 36 From the descendants of Benjamin: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. YLT 37 their numbered ones, for the tribe of Benjamin, [are] five and thirty thousand and four hundred. NIV 37 The number from the tribe of Benjamin was 35,400. YLT 38 Of the sons of Dan -- their births, by their families, by the house of their fathers, in the number of names, from a son of twenty years and upward, every one going out to the host -- NIV 38 From the descendants of Dan: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. YLT 39 their numbered ones, for the tribe of Dan, [are] two and sixty thousand and seven hundred. NIV 39 The number from the tribe of Dan was 62,700. YLT 40 Of the sons of Asher -- their births, by their families, by the house of their fathers, in the number of names, from a son of twenty years and upward, every one going out to the host -- NIV 40 From the descendants of Asher: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. YLT 41 their numbered ones, for the tribe of Asher, [are] one and forty thousand and five hundred. NIV 41 The number from the tribe of Asher was 41,500. YLT 42 [Of] the sons of Naphtali -- their births, by their families, by the house of their fathers, in the number of names, from a son of twenty years and upward, every one going out to the host -- NIV 42 From the descendants of Naphtali: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. YLT 43 their numbered ones, for the tribe of Naphtali, [are] three and fifty thousand and four hundred. NIV 43 The number from the tribe of Naphtali was 53,400. YLT 44 These [are] those numbered, whom Moses numbered -- Aaron also, and the princes of Israel, twelve men -- each for the house of his fathers, they have been. NIV 44 These were the men counted by Moses and Aaron and the twelve leaders of Israel, each one representing his family. YLT 45 And they are, all those numbered of the sons of Israel, by the house of their fathers, from a son of twenty years and upward, every one going out to the host in Israel, NIV 45 All the Israelites twenty years old or more who were able to serve in Israel's army were counted according to their families. YLT 46 yea, all those numbered are six hundred thousand, and three thousand, and five hundred and fifty. NIV 46 The total number was 603,550. YLT 47 And the Levites, for the tribe of their fathers, have not numbered themselves in their midst, NIV 47 The families of the tribe of Levi, however, were not counted along with the others. YLT 48 seeing Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying, NIV 48 The LORD had said to Moses: YLT 49 `Only, the tribe of Levi thou dost not number, and their sum thou dost not take up in the midst of the sons of Israel; NIV 49 "You must not count the tribe of Levi or include them in the census of the other Israelites. YLT 50 and thou, appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of the testimony, and over all its vessels, and over all that it hath; they bear the tabernacle, and all its vessels, and they serve it; and round about the tabernacle they encamp. NIV 50 Instead, appoint the Levites to be in charge of the tabernacle of the Testimony--over all its furnishings and everything belonging to it. They are to carry the tabernacle and all its furnishings; they are to take care of it and encamp around it. YLT 51 `And in the journeying of the tabernacle, the Levites take it down, and in the encamping of the tabernacle, the Levites raise it up; and the stranger who is coming near is put to death.' NIV 51 Whenever the tabernacle is to move, the Levites are to take it down, and whenever the tabernacle is to be set up, the Levites shall do it. Anyone else who goes near it shall be put to death. YLT 52 And the sons of Israel have encamped, each by his camp, and each by his standard, by their hosts; NIV 52 The Israelites are to set up their tents by divisions, each man in his own camp under his own standard. YLT 53 and the Levites encamp round about the tabernacle of the testimony; and there is no wrath on the company of the sons of Israel, and the Levites have kept the charge of the tabernacle of the testimony. NIV 53 The Levites, however, are to set up their tents around the tabernacle of the Testimony so that wrath will not fall on the Israelite community. The Levites are to be responsible for the care of the tabernacle of the Testimony." YLT 54 And the sons of Israel do according to all that Jehovah hath commanded Moses; so they have done. NIV 54 The Israelites did all this just as the LORD commanded Moses.
