Numbers 10:11-36

MSG 11 In the second year, on the twentieth day of the second month, the Cloud went up from over The Dwelling of The Testimony. NIV 11 On the twentieth day of the second month of the second year, the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle of the Testimony. MSG 12 At that the People of Israel set out on their travels from the Wilderness of Sinai until the Cloud finally settled in the Wilderness of Paran. NIV 12 Then the Israelites set out from the Desert of Sinai and traveled from place to place until the cloud came to rest in the Desert of Paran. MSG 13 They began their march at the command of God through Moses. NIV 13 They set out, this first time, at the LORD's command through Moses. MSG 14 The flag of the camp of Judah led the way, rank after rank under the command of Nahshon son of Amminadab. NIV 14 The divisions of the camp of Judah went first, under their standard. Nahshon son of Amminadab was in command. MSG 15 Nethanel son of Zuar commanded the forces of the tribe of Issachar, NIV 15 Nethanel son of Zuar was over the division of the tribe of Issachar, MSG 16 and Eliab son of Helon commanded the forces of the tribe of Zebulun. NIV 16 and Eliab son of Helon was over the division of the tribe of Zebulun. MSG 17 As soon as The Dwelling was taken down, the Gershonites and the Merarites set out, carrying The Dwelling. NIV 17 Then the tabernacle was taken down, and the Gershonites and Merarites, who carried it, set out. MSG 18 The flag of the camp of Reuben was next with Elizur son of Shedeur in command. NIV 18 The divisions of the camp of Reuben went next, under their standard. Elizur son of Shedeur was in command. MSG 19 Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai commanded the forces of the tribe of Simeon; NIV 19 Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai was over the division of the tribe of Simeon, MSG 20 Eliasaph son of Deuel commanded the forces of the tribe of Gad. NIV 20 and Eliasaph son of Deuel was over the division of the tribe of Gad. MSG 21 Then the Kohathites left, carrying the holy things. By the time they arrived The Dwelling would be set up. NIV 21 Then the Kohathites set out, carrying the holy things. The tabernacle was to be set up before they arrived. MSG 22 The flag of the tribe of Ephraim moved out next, commanded by Elishama son of Ammihud. NIV 22 The divisions of the camp of Ephraim went next, under their standard. Elishama son of Ammihud was in command. MSG 23 Gamaliel son of Pedahzur commanded the forces of the tribe of Manasseh; NIV 23 Gamaliel son of Pedahzur was over the division of the tribe of Manasseh, MSG 24 Abidan son of Gideoni commanded the forces of the tribe of Benjamin. NIV 24 and Abidan son of Gideoni was over the division of the tribe of Benjamin. MSG 25 Finally, under the flag of the tribe of Dan, the rear guard of all the camps marched out with Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai in command. NIV 25 Finally, as the rear guard for all the units, the divisions of the camp of Dan set out, under their standard. Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai was in command. MSG 26 Pagiel son of Ocran commanded the forces of the tribe of Asher; NIV 26 Pagiel son of Ocran was over the division of the tribe of Asher, MSG 27 Ahira son of Enan commanded the forces of the tribe of Naphtali. NIV 27 and Ahira son of Enan was over the division of the tribe of Naphtali. MSG 28 These were the marching units of the People of Israel. They were on their way. NIV 28 This was the order of march for the Israelite divisions as they set out. MSG 29 Moses said to his brother-in-law Hobab son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses' father-in-law, "We're marching to the place about which God promised, 'I'll give it to you.' Come with us; we'll treat you well. God has promised good things for Israel." NIV 29 Now Moses said to Hobab son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses' father-in-law, "We are setting out for the place about which the LORD said, 'I will give it to you.' Come with us and we will treat you well, for the LORD has promised good things to Israel." MSG 30 But Hobab said, "I'm not coming; I'm going back home to my own country, to my own family." NIV 30 He answered, "No, I will not go; I am going back to my own land and my own people." MSG 31 Moses countered, "Don't leave us. You know all the best places to camp in the wilderness. We need your eyes. NIV 31 But Moses said, "Please do not leave us. You know where we should camp in the desert, and you can be our eyes. MSG 32 If you come with us, we'll make sure that you share in all the good things God will do for us." NIV 32 If you come with us, we will share with you whatever good things the LORD gives us." MSG 33 And so off they marched. From the Mountain of God they marched three days with the Chest of the Covenant of God in the lead to scout out a campsite. NIV 33 So they set out from the mountain of the LORD and traveled for three days. The ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them during those three days to find them a place to rest. MSG 34 The Cloud of God was above them by day when they marched from the camp. NIV 34 The cloud of the LORD was over them by day when they set out from the camp. MSG 35 With the Chest leading the way, Moses would say, Get up, God! Put down your enemies! Chase those who hate you to the hills! NIV 35 Whenever the ark set out, Moses said, "Rise up, O LORD! May your enemies be scattered; may your foes flee before you." MSG 36 And when the Chest was set down, he would say, Rest with us, God, Stay with the many, Many thousands of Israel. NIV 36 Whenever it came to rest, he said, "Return, O LORD, to the countless thousands of Israel."
