NKJV 1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: NIV 1 The LORD said to Moses, NKJV 2 "Command the children of Israel that they put out of the camp every leper, everyone who has a discharge, and whoever becomes defiled by a corpse. NIV 2 "Command the Israelites to send away from the camp anyone who has an infectious skin disease or a discharge of any kind, or who is ceremonially unclean because of a dead body. NKJV 3 You shall put out both male and female; you shall put them outside the camp, that they may not defile their camps in the midst of which I dwell." NIV 3 Send away male and female alike; send them outside the camp so they will not defile their camp, where I dwell among them." NKJV 4 And the children of Israel did so, and put them outside the camp; as the Lord spoke to Moses, so the children of Israel did. NIV 4 The Israelites did this; they sent them outside the camp. They did just as the LORD had instructed Moses. NKJV 5 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, NIV 5 The LORD said to Moses, NKJV 6 "Speak to the children of Israel: 'When a man or woman commits any sin that men commit in unfaithfulness against the Lord, and that person is guilty, NIV 6 "Say to the Israelites: 'When a man or woman wrongs another in any way and so is unfaithful to the LORD, that person is guilty NKJV 7 then he shall confess the sin which he has committed. He shall make restitution for his trespass in full, plus one-fifth of it, and give it to the one he has wronged. NIV 7 and must confess the sin he has committed. He must make full restitution for his wrong, add one fifth to it and give it all to the person he has wronged. NKJV 8 But if the man has no relative to whom restitution may be made for the wrong, the restitution for the wrong must go to the Lord for the priest, in addition to the ram of the atonement with which atonement is made for him. NIV 8 But if that person has no close relative to whom restitution can be made for the wrong, the restitution belongs to the LORD and must be given to the priest, along with the ram with which atonement is made for him. NKJV 9 Every offering of all the holy things of the children of Israel, which they bring to the priest, shall be his. NIV 9 All the sacred contributions the Israelites bring to a priest will belong to him. NKJV 10 And every man's holy things shall be his; whatever any man gives the priest shall be his.' " NIV 10 Each man's sacred gifts are his own, but what he gives to the priest will belong to the priest.' " NKJV 11 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, NIV 11 Then the LORD said to Moses, NKJV 12 "Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: 'If any man's wife goes astray and behaves unfaithfully toward him, NIV 12 "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'If a man's wife goes astray and is unfaithful to him NKJV 13 and a man lies with her carnally, and it is hidden from the eyes of her husband, and it is concealed that she has defiled herself, and there was no witness against her, nor was she caught-- NIV 13 by sleeping with another man, and this is hidden from her husband and her impurity is undetected (since there is no witness against her and she has not been caught in the act), NKJV 14 if the spirit of jealousy comes upon him and he becomes jealous of his wife, who has defiled herself; or if the spirit of jealousy comes upon him and he becomes jealous of his wife, although she has not defiled herself-- NIV 14 and if feelings of jealousy come over her husband and he suspects his wife and she is impure--or if he is jealous and suspects her even though she is not impure-- NKJV 15 then the man shall bring his wife to the priest. He shall bring the offering required for her, one-tenth of an ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil on it and put no frankincense on it, because it is a grain offering of jealousy, an offering for remembering, for bringing iniquity to remembrance. NIV 15 then he is to take his wife to the priest. He must also take an offering of a tenth of an ephah of barley flour on her behalf. He must not pour oil on it or put incense on it, because it is a grain offering for jealousy, a reminder offering to draw attention to guilt. NKJV 16 'And the priest shall bring her near, and set her before the Lord. NIV 16 " 'The priest shall bring her and have her stand before the LORD. NKJV 17 The priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel, and take some of the dust that is on the floor of the tabernacle and put it into the water. NIV 17 Then he shall take some holy water in a clay jar and put some dust from the tabernacle floor into the water. NKJV 18 Then the priest shall stand the woman before the Lord, uncover the woman's head, and put the offering for remembering in her hands, which is the grain offering of jealousy. And the priest shall have in his hand the bitter water that brings a curse. NIV 18 After the priest has had the woman stand before the LORD, he shall loosen her hair and place in her hands the reminder offering, the grain offering for jealousy, while he himself holds the bitter water that brings a curse. NKJV 19 And the priest shall put her under oath, and say to the woman, "If no man has lain with you, and if you have not gone astray to uncleanness while under your husband's authority, be free from this bitter water that brings a curse. NIV 19 Then the priest shall put the woman under oath and say to her, "If no other man has slept with you and you have not gone astray and become impure while married to your husband, may this bitter water that brings a curse not harm you. NKJV 20 But if you have gone astray while under your husband's authority, and if you have defiled yourself and some man other than your husband has lain with you"-- NIV 20 But if you have gone astray while married to your husband and you have defiled yourself by sleeping with a man other than your husband"-- NKJV 21 then the priest shall put the woman under the oath of the curse, and he shall say to the woman--"the Lord make you a curse and an oath among your people, when the Lord makes your thigh rot and your belly swell; NIV 21 here the priest is to put the woman under this curse of the oath--"may the LORD cause your people to curse and denounce you when he causes your thigh to waste away and your abdomen to swell. NKJV 22 and may this water that causes the curse go into your stomach, and make your belly swell and your thigh rot." Then the woman shall say, "Amen, so be it." NIV 22 May this water that brings a curse enter your body so that your abdomen swells and your thigh wastes away. " " 'Then the woman is to say, "Amen. So be it." NKJV 23 'Then the priest shall write these curses in a book, and he shall scrape them off into the bitter water. NIV 23 " 'The priest is to write these curses on a scroll and then wash them off into the bitter water. NKJV 24 And he shall make the woman drink the bitter water that brings a curse, and the water that brings the curse shall enter her to become bitter. NIV 24 He shall have the woman drink the bitter water that brings a curse, and this water will enter her and cause bitter suffering. NKJV 25 Then the priest shall take the grain offering of jealousy from the woman's hand, shall wave the offering before the Lord, and bring it to the altar; NIV 25 The priest is to take from her hands the grain offering for jealousy, wave it before the LORD and bring it to the altar. NKJV 26 and the priest shall take a handful of the offering, as its memorial portion, burn it on the altar, and afterward make the woman drink the water. NIV 26 The priest is then to take a handful of the grain offering as a memorial offering and burn it on the altar; after that, he is to have the woman drink the water. NKJV 27 When he has made her drink the water, then it shall be, if she has defiled herself and behaved unfaithfully toward her husband, that the water that brings a curse will enter her and become bitter, and her belly will swell, her thigh will rot, and the woman will become a curse among her people. NIV 27 If she has defiled herself and been unfaithful to her husband, then when she is made to drink the water that brings a curse, it will go into her and cause bitter suffering; her abdomen will swell and her thigh waste away, and she will become accursed among her people. NKJV 28 But if the woman has not defiled herself, and is clean, then she shall be free and may conceive children. NIV 28 If, however, the woman has not defiled herself and is free from impurity, she will be cleared of guilt and will be able to have children. NKJV 29 'This is the law of jealousy, when a wife, while under her husband's authority, goes astray and defiles herself, NIV 29 " 'This, then, is the law of jealousy when a woman goes astray and defiles herself while married to her husband, NKJV 30 or when the spirit of jealousy comes upon a man, and he becomes jealous of his wife; then he shall stand the woman before the Lord, and the priest shall execute all this law upon her. NIV 30 or when feelings of jealousy come over a man because he suspects his wife. The priest is to have her stand before the LORD and is to apply this entire law to her. NKJV 31 Then the man shall be free from iniquity, but that woman shall bear her guilt.' " NIV 31 The husband will be innocent of any wrongdoing, but the woman will bear the consequences of her sin.' "
