Philemon 1

BBE 1 Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon, our dear helper in the faith, NIV 1 Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, To Philemon our dear friend and fellow worker, BBE 2 And to Apphia, our sister, and to Archippus, our brother in God's army, and to the church in your house: NIV 2 to Apphia our sister, to Archippus our fellow soldier and to the church that meets in your home: BBE 3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. NIV 3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. BBE 4 I give praise to God at all times and make prayer for you, NIV 4 I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers, BBE 5 Hearing of the love and the faith which you have to the Lord Jesus and to all the saints; NIV 5 because I hear about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints. BBE 6 That the faith which you have in common with them may be working with power, in the knowledge of every good thing in you, for Christ. NIV 6 I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ. BBE 7 For I had great joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been made strong again through you, brother. NIV 7 Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the saints. BBE 8 And so, though I might, in the name of Christ, give you orders to do what is right, NIV 8 Therefore, although in Christ I could be bold and order you to do what you ought to do, BBE 9 Still, because of love, in place of an order, I make a request to you, I, Paul, an old man and now a prisoner of Christ Jesus: NIV 9 yet I appeal to you on the basis of love. I then, as Paul--an old man and now also a prisoner of Christ Jesus-- BBE 10 My request is for my child Onesimus, the child of my chains, NIV 10 I appeal to you for my son Onesimus, who became my son while I was in chains. BBE 11 Who in the past was of no profit to you, but now is of profit to you and to me: NIV 11 Formerly he was useless to you, but now he has become useful both to you and to me. BBE 12 Whom I have sent back to you, him who is my very heart: NIV 12 I am sending him--who is my very heart--back to you. BBE 13 Though my desire was to keep him with me, to be my servant in the chains of the good news, in your place: NIV 13 I would have liked to keep him with me so that he could take your place in helping me while I am in chains for the gospel. BBE 14 But without your approval I would do nothing; so that your good works might not be forced, but done freely from your heart. NIV 14 But I did not want to do anything without your consent, so that any favor you do will be spontaneous and not forced. BBE 15 For it is possible that for this reason he was parted from you for a time, so that you might have him for ever; NIV 15 Perhaps the reason he was separated from you for a little while was that you might have him back for good-- BBE 16 No longer as a servant, but more than a servant, a brother, very dear to me specially, but much more to you, in the flesh as well as in the Lord. NIV 16 no longer as a slave, but better than a slave, as a dear brother. He is very dear to me but even dearer to you, both as a man and as a brother in the Lord. BBE 17 If then you take me to be your friend and brother, take him in as myself. NIV 17 So if you consider me a partner, welcome him as you would welcome me. BBE 18 If he has done you any wrong or is in debt to you for anything, put it to my account. NIV 18 If he has done you any wrong or owes you anything, charge it to me. BBE 19 I, Paul, writing this myself, say, I will make payment to you: and I do not say to you that you are in debt to me even for your life. NIV 19 I, Paul, am writing this with my own hand. I will pay it back--not to mention that you owe me your very self. BBE 20 So brother, let me have joy of you in the Lord: give new life to my heart in Christ. NIV 20 I do wish, brother, that I may have some benefit from you in the Lord; refresh my heart in Christ. BBE 21 Being certain that you will do my desire, I am writing to you, in the knowledge that you will do even more than I say. NIV 21 Confident of your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I ask. BBE 22 And make a room ready for me; for I am hoping that through your prayers I will be given to you. NIV 22 And one thing more: Prepare a guest room for me, because I hope to be restored to you in answer to your prayers. BBE 23 Epaphras, my brother-prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you his love; NIV 23 Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you greetings. BBE 24 And so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my brother-workers. NIV 24 And so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas and Luke, my fellow workers. BBE 25 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. So be it. NIV 25 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.
