Philippians 1

CJB 1 From: Sha'ul and Timothy, slaves of the Messiah Yeshua To: All God's people united with the Messiah Yeshua and living in Philippi, along with the congregation leaders and shammashim: NIV 1 Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, To all the saints in Christ Jesus at Philippi, together with the overseers and deacons: CJB 2 Grace to you and shalom from God our Father and the Lord Yeshua the Messiah. NIV 2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. CJB 3 I thank my God every time I think of you. NIV 3 I thank my God every time I remember you. CJB 4 Whenever I pray for all of you I always pray with joy, NIV 4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy CJB 5 because you have shared in proclaiming the Good News from the very first day until now. NIV 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, CJB 6 And I am sure of this: that the One who began a good work among you will keep it growing until it is completed on the Day of the Messiah Yeshua. NIV 6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. CJB 7 It is right for me to think this way about you all, because I have you on my heart; for whether I am in chains or defending and establishing the Good News, you are all sharing with me in this privileged work. NIV 7 It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart; for whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God's grace with me. CJB 8 God can testify how I long for all of you with the deep affection of the Messiah Yeshua. NIV 8 God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus. CJB 9 And this is my prayer: that your love may more and more overflow in fullness of knowledge and depth of discernment, NIV 9 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, CJB 10 so that you will be able to determine what is best and thus be pure and without blame for the Day of the Messiah, NIV 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, CJB 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Yeshua the Messiah - to the glory and praise of God. NIV 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ--to the glory and praise of God. CJB 12 Now, brothers, I want you to know that what has happened to me has helped in advancing the Good News. NIV 12 Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel. CJB 13 It has become clear to the whole palace and to everyone else that it is because of the Messiah that I am in chains. NIV 13 As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. CJB 14 Also, my being in prison has given most of the brothers in the Lord confidence, so that they have become much more bold in speaking the word of God fearlessly. NIV 14 Because of my chains, most of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly. CJB 15 True, some are proclaiming the Messiah out of jealousy and rivalry, but others are doing it in goodwill. NIV 15 It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. CJB 16 The latter act from love, aware that I am put where I am for defending the Good News; NIV 16 The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. CJB 17 while the former announce the Messiah out of selfish ambition, with impure motives, supposing they can stir up trouble for me in prison. NIV 17 The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. CJB 18 But so what? All that matters is that in every way, whether honestly or in pretense, the Messiah is being proclaimed; and in that I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, NIV 18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, CJB 19 for I know that this will work out for my deliverance, because of your prayers and the support I get from the Spirit of Yeshua the Messiah. NIV 19 for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance. CJB 20 It all accords with my earnest expectation and hope that I will have nothing to be ashamed of; but rather, now, as always, the Messiah will be honored by my body, whether it is alive or dead. NIV 20 I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. CJB 21 For to me, life is the Messiah, and death is gain. NIV 21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. CJB 22 But if by living on in the body I can do fruitful work, then I don't know which to choose. NIV 22 If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! CJB 23 I am caught in a dilemma: my desire is to go off and be with the Messiah - that is better by far - NIV 23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; CJB 24 but because of you, the greater need is to stay on in the body. NIV 24 but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. CJB 25 Yes, I am convinced of this; so I know I will stay on with you in order to help you progress in the faith and have joy in it. NIV 25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith, CJB 26 Then, through my being with you again, you will have even greater reason for boasting about the Messiah Yeshua. NIV 26 so that through my being with you again your joy in Christ Jesus will overflow on account of me. CJB 27 Only conduct your lives in a way worthy of the Good News of the Messiah; so that whether I come and see you or I hear about you from a distance, you stand firm, united in spirit, fighting with one accord for the faith of the Good News, NIV 27 Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit, contending as one man for the faith of the gospel CJB 28 not frightened by anything the opposition does. This will be for them an indication that they are headed for destruction and you for deliverance. And this is from God; NIV 28 without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved--and that by God. CJB 29 because for the Messiah's sake it has been granted to you not only to trust in him but also to suffer on his behalf, NIV 29 For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for him, CJB 30 to fight the same battles you once saw me fight and now hear that I am still fighting. NIV 30 since you are going through the same struggle you saw I had, and now hear that I still have.
