Philippians 1

VULA 1 Paulus et Timotheus servi Iesu Christi omnibus sanctis in Christo Iesu qui sunt Philippis cum episcopis et diaconis NIV 1 Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, To all the saints in Christ Jesus at Philippi, together with the overseers and deacons: VULA 2 gratia vobis et pax a Deo Patre nostro et Domino Iesu Christo NIV 2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. VULA 3 gratias ago Deo meo in omni memoria vestri NIV 3 I thank my God every time I remember you. VULA 4 semper in cunctis orationibus meis pro omnibus vobis cum gaudio deprecationem faciens NIV 4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy VULA 5 super communicatione vestra in evangelio a prima die usque nunc NIV 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, VULA 6 confidens hoc ipsum quia qui coepit in vobis opus bonum perficiet usque in diem Christi Iesu NIV 6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. VULA 7 sicut est mihi iustum hoc sentire pro omnibus vobis eo quod habeam in corde vos et in vinculis meis et in defensione et confirmatione evangelii socios gaudii mei omnes vos esse NIV 7 It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart; for whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God's grace with me. VULA 8 testis enim mihi est Deus quomodo cupiam omnes vos in visceribus Christi Iesu NIV 8 God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus. VULA 9 et hoc oro ut caritas vestra magis ac magis abundet in scientia et omni sensu NIV 9 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, VULA 10 ut probetis potiora ut sitis sinceres et sine offensa in diem Christi NIV 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, VULA 11 repleti fructu iustitiae per Christum Iesum in gloriam et laudem Dei NIV 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ--to the glory and praise of God. VULA 12 scire autem vos volo fratres quia quae circa me sunt magis ad profectum venerunt evangelii NIV 12 Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel. VULA 13 ita ut vincula mea manifesta fierent in Christo in omni praetorio et in ceteris omnibus NIV 13 As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. VULA 14 et plures e fratribus in Domino confidentes vinculis meis abundantius audere sine timore verbum Dei loqui NIV 14 Because of my chains, most of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly. VULA 15 quidam quidem et propter invidiam et contentionem quidam autem et propter bonam voluntatem Christum praedicant NIV 15 It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. VULA 16 quidam ex caritate scientes quoniam in defensionem evangelii positus sum NIV 16 The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. VULA 17 quidam autem ex contentione Christum adnuntiant non sincere existimantes pressuram se suscitare vinculis meis NIV 17 The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. VULA 18 quid enim dum omni modo sive per occasionem sive per veritatem Christus adnuntiatur et in hoc gaudeo sed et gaudebo NIV 18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, VULA 19 scio enim quia hoc mihi proveniet in salutem per vestram orationem et subministrationem Spiritus Iesu Christi NIV 19 for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance. VULA 20 secundum expectationem et spem meam quia in nullo confundar sed in omni fiducia sicut semper et nunc magnificabitur Christus in corpore meo sive per vitam sive per mortem NIV 20 I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. VULA 21 mihi enim vivere Christus est et mori lucrum NIV 21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. VULA 22 quod si vivere in carne hic mihi fructus operis est et quid eligam ignoro NIV 22 If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! VULA 23 coartor autem e duobus desiderium habens dissolvi et cum Christo esse multo magis melius NIV 23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; VULA 24 permanere autem in carne magis necessarium est propter vos NIV 24 but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. VULA 25 et hoc confidens scio quia manebo et permanebo omnibus vobis ad profectum vestrum et gaudium fidei NIV 25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith, VULA 26 ut gratulatio vestra abundet in Christo Iesu in me per meum adventum iterum ad vos NIV 26 so that through my being with you again your joy in Christ Jesus will overflow on account of me. VULA 27 tantum digne evangelio Christi conversamini ut sive cum venero et videro vos sive absens audiam de vobis quia stetistis uno spiritu unianimes conlaborantes fide evangelii NIV 27 Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit, contending as one man for the faith of the gospel VULA 28 et in nullo terreamini ab adversariis quae est illis causa perditionis vobis autem salutis et hoc a Deo NIV 28 without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved--and that by God. VULA 29 quia vobis donatum est pro Christo non solum ut in eum credatis sed ut etiam pro illo patiamini NIV 29 For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for him, VULA 30 eundem certamen habentes qualem et vidistis in me et nunc audistis de me NIV 30 since you are going through the same struggle you saw I had, and now hear that I still have.
