Philippians 1:14-24

NLT 14 And because of my imprisonment, many of the Christians here have gained confidence and become more bold in telling others about Christ. NIV 14 Because of my chains, most of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly. NLT 15 Some are preaching out of jealousy and rivalry. But others preach about Christ with pure motives. NIV 15 It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. NLT 16 They preach because they love me, for they know the Lord brought me here to defend the Good News. NIV 16 The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. NLT 17 Those others do not have pure motives as they preach about Christ. They preach with selfish ambition, not sincerely, intending to make my chains more painful to me. NIV 17 The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. NLT 18 But whether or not their motives are pure, the fact remains that the message about Christ is being preached, so I rejoice. And I will continue to rejoice. NIV 18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, NLT 19 For I know that as you pray for me and as the Spirit of Jesus Christ helps me, this will all turn out for my deliverance. NIV 19 for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance. NLT 20 For I live in eager expectation and hope that I will never do anything that causes me shame, but that I will always be bold for Christ, as I have been in the past, and that my life will always honor Christ, whether I live or I die. NIV 20 I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. NLT 21 For to me, living is for Christ, and dying is even better. NIV 21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. NLT 22 Yet if I live, that means fruitful service for Christ. I really don't know which is better. NIV 22 If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! NLT 23 I'm torn between two desires: Sometimes I want to live, and sometimes I long to go and be with Christ. That would be far better for me, NIV 23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; NLT 24 but it is better for you that I live. NIV 24 but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.
