Philippians 2

NAS 1 Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, NIV 1 If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, NAS 2 make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. NIV 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. NAS 3 Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; NIV 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. NAS 4 do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. NIV 4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. NAS 5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, NIV 5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: NAS 6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, NIV 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, NAS 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. NIV 7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. NAS 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. NIV 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross! NAS 9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, NIV 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, NAS 10 so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, NIV 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, NAS 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord , to the glory of God the Father. NIV 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. NAS 12 So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; NIV 12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed--not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence--continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, NAS 13 for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. NIV 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. NAS 14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing; NIV 14 Do everything without complaining or arguing, NAS 15 so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, NIV 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe NAS 16 holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain. NIV 16 as you hold out the word of life--in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing. NAS 17 But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and share my joy with you all. NIV 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. NAS 18 You too, I urge you, rejoice in the same way and share your joy with me. NIV 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me. NAS 19 But I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you shortly, so that I also may be encouraged when I learn of your condition . NIV 19 I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you. NAS 20 For I have no one else of kindred spirit who will genuinely be concerned for your welfare. NIV 20 I have no one else like him, who takes a genuine interest in your welfare. NAS 21 For they all seek after their own interests, not those of Christ Jesus. NIV 21 For everyone looks out for his own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. NAS 22 But you know of his proven worth, that he served with me in the furtherance of the gospel like a child serving his father. NIV 22 But you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel. NAS 23 Therefore I hope to send him immediately, as soon as I see how things go with me; NIV 23 I hope, therefore, to send him as soon as I see how things go with me. NAS 24 and I trust in the Lord that I myself also will be coming shortly. NIV 24 And I am confident in the Lord that I myself will come soon. NAS 25 But I thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger and minister to my need; NIV 25 But I think it is necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger, whom you sent to take care of my needs. NAS 26 because he was longing for you all and was distressed because you had heard that he was sick. NIV 26 For he longs for all of you and is distressed because you heard he was ill. NAS 27 For indeed he was sick to the point of death, but God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, so that I would not have sorrow upon sorrow. NIV 27 Indeed he was ill, and almost died. But God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow. NAS 28 Therefore I have sent him all the more eagerly so that when you see him again you may rejoice and I may be less concerned about you. NIV 28 Therefore I am all the more eager to send him, so that when you see him again you may be glad and I may have less anxiety. NAS 29 Receive him then in the Lord with all joy, and hold men like him in high regard; NIV 29 Welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honor men like him, NAS 30 because he came close to death for the work of Christ, risking his life to complete what was deficient in your service to me. NIV 30 because he almost died for the work of Christ, risking his life to make up for the help you could not give me.
