Philippians 2

NRSA 1 If then there is any encouragement in Christ, any consolation from love, any sharing in the Spirit, any compassion and sympathy, NIV 1 If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, NRSA 2 make my joy complete: be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. NIV 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. NRSA 3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. NIV 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. NRSA 4 Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others. NIV 4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. NRSA 5 Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, NIV 5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: NRSA 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, NIV 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, NRSA 7 but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, NIV 7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. NRSA 8 he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death— even death on a cross. NIV 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross! NRSA 9 Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, NIV 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, NRSA 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, NIV 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, NRSA 11 and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. NIV 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. NRSA 12 Therefore, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed me, not only in my presence, but much more now in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; NIV 12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed--not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence--continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, NRSA 13 for it is God who is at work in you, enabling you both to will and to work for his good pleasure. NIV 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. NRSA 14 Do all things without murmuring and arguing, NIV 14 Do everything without complaining or arguing, NRSA 15 so that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, in which you shine like stars in the world. NIV 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe NRSA 16 It is by your holding fast to the word of life that I can boast on the day of Christ that I did not run in vain or labor in vain. NIV 16 as you hold out the word of life--in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing. NRSA 17 But even if I am being poured out as a libation over the sacrifice and the offering of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you— NIV 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. NRSA 18 and in the same way you also must be glad and rejoice with me. NIV 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me. NRSA 19 I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, so that I may be cheered by news of you. NIV 19 I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you. NRSA 20 I have no one like him who will be genuinely concerned for your welfare. NIV 20 I have no one else like him, who takes a genuine interest in your welfare. NRSA 21 All of them are seeking their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. NIV 21 For everyone looks out for his own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. NRSA 22 But Timothy's worth you know, how like a son with a father he has served with me in the work of the gospel. NIV 22 But you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel. NRSA 23 I hope therefore to send him as soon as I see how things go with me; NIV 23 I hope, therefore, to send him as soon as I see how things go with me. NRSA 24 and I trust in the Lord that I will also come soon. NIV 24 And I am confident in the Lord that I myself will come soon. NRSA 25 Still, I think it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus—my brother and co-worker and fellow soldier, your messenger and minister to my need; NIV 25 But I think it is necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger, whom you sent to take care of my needs. NRSA 26 for he has been longing for all of you, and has been distressed because you heard that he was ill. NIV 26 For he longs for all of you and is distressed because you heard he was ill. NRSA 27 He was indeed so ill that he nearly died. But God had mercy on him, and not only on him but on me also, so that I would not have one sorrow after another. NIV 27 Indeed he was ill, and almost died. But God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow. NRSA 28 I am the more eager to send him, therefore, in order that you may rejoice at seeing him again, and that I may be less anxious. NIV 28 Therefore I am all the more eager to send him, so that when you see him again you may be glad and I may have less anxiety. NRSA 29 Welcome him then in the Lord with all joy, and honor such people, NIV 29 Welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honor men like him, NRSA 30 because he came close to death for the work of Christ, risking his life to make up for those services that you could not give me. NIV 30 because he almost died for the work of Christ, risking his life to make up for the help you could not give me.
