Proverbs 10

NAS 1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a father glad, But a foolish son is a grief to his mother. NIV 1 The proverbs of Solomon: A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son grief to his mother. NAS 2 Ill-gotten gains do not profit, But righteousness delivers from death. NIV 2 Ill-gotten treasures are of no value, but righteousness delivers from death. NAS 3 The LORD will not allow the righteous to hunger, But He will reject the craving of the wicked. NIV 3 The LORD does not let the righteous go hungry but he thwarts the craving of the wicked. NAS 4 Poor is he who works with a negligent hand, But the hand of the diligent makes rich. NIV 4 Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth. NAS 5 He who gathers in summer is a son who acts wisely, But he who sleeps in harvest is a son who acts shamefully. NIV 5 He who gathers crops in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son. NAS 6 Blessings are on the head of the righteous, But the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. NIV 6 Blessings crown the head of the righteous, but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked. NAS 7 The memory of the righteous is blessed, But the name of the wicked will rot. NIV 7 The memory of the righteous will be a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot. NAS 8 The wise of heart will receive commands, But a babbling fool will be ruined. NIV 8 The wise in heart accept commands, but a chattering fool comes to ruin. NAS 9 He who walks in integrity walks securely, But he who perverts his ways will be found out. NIV 9 The man of integrity walks securely, but he who takes crooked paths will be found out. NAS 10 He who winks the eye causes trouble, And a babbling fool will be ruined. NIV 10 He who winks maliciously causes grief, and a chattering fool comes to ruin. NAS 11 The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, But the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. NIV 11 The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked. NAS 12 Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all transgressions. NIV 12 Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs. NAS 13 On the lips of the discerning, wisdom is found, But a rod is for the back of him who lacks understanding. NIV 13 Wisdom is found on the lips of the discerning, but a rod is for the back of him who lacks judgment. NAS 14 Wise men store up knowledge, But with the mouth of the foolish, ruin is at hand. NIV 14 Wise men store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool invites ruin. NAS 15 The rich man's wealth is his fortress , The ruin of the poor is their poverty. NIV 15 The wealth of the rich is their fortified city, but poverty is the ruin of the poor. NAS 16 The wages of the righteous is life, The income of the wicked, punishment. NIV 16 The wages of the righteous bring them life, but the income of the wicked brings them punishment. NAS 17 He is on the path of life who heeds instruction, But he who ignores reproof goes astray. NIV 17 He who heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray. NAS 18 He who conceals hatred has lying lips, And he who spreads slander is a fool. NIV 18 He who conceals his hatred has lying lips, and whoever spreads slander is a fool. NAS 19 When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable , But he who restrains his lips is wise. NIV 19 When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise. NAS 20 The tongue of the righteous is as choice silver, The heart of the wicked is worth little. NIV 20 The tongue of the righteous is choice silver, but the heart of the wicked is of little value. NAS 21 The lips of the righteous feed many, But fools die for lack of understanding. NIV 21 The lips of the righteous nourish many, but fools die for lack of judgment. NAS 22 It is the blessing of the LORD that makes rich, And He adds no sorrow to it. NIV 22 The blessing of the LORD brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it. NAS 23 Doing wickedness is like sport to a fool, And so is wisdom to a man of understanding. NIV 23 A fool finds pleasure in evil conduct, but a man of understanding delights in wisdom. NAS 24 What the wicked fears will come upon him, But the desire of the righteous will be granted. NIV 24 What the wicked dreads will overtake him; what the righteous desire will be granted. NAS 25 When the whirlwind passes, the wicked is no more, But the righteous has an everlasting foundation. NIV 25 When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever. NAS 26 Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, So is the lazy one to those who send him. NIV 26 As vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so is a sluggard to those who send him. NAS 27 The fear of the LORD prolongs life, But the years of the wicked will be shortened. NIV 27 The fear of the LORD adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short. NAS 28 The hope of the righteous is gladness, But the expectation of the wicked perishes. NIV 28 The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing. NAS 29 The way of the LORD is a stronghold to the upright, But ruin to the workers of iniquity. NIV 29 The way of the LORD is a refuge for the righteous, but it is the ruin of those who do evil. NAS 30 The righteous will never be shaken, But the wicked will not dwell in the land. NIV 30 The righteous will never be uprooted, but the wicked will not remain in the land. NAS 31 The mouth of the righteous flows with wisdom, But the perverted tongue will be cut out. NIV 31 The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, but a perverse tongue will be cut out. NAS 32 The lips of the righteous bring forth what is acceptable, But the mouth of the wicked what is perverted. NIV 32 The lips of the righteous know what is fitting, but the mouth of the wicked only what is perverse.
