Proverbs 10

WBT 1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son [is] the heaviness of his mother. NIV 1 The proverbs of Solomon: A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son grief to his mother. WBT 2 Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death. NIV 2 Ill-gotten treasures are of no value, but righteousness delivers from death. WBT 3 The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked. NIV 3 The LORD does not let the righteous go hungry but he thwarts the craving of the wicked. WBT 4 He becometh poor that dealeth [with] a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich. NIV 4 Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth. WBT 5 He that gathereth in summer [is] a wise son: [but] he that sleepeth in harvest [is] a son that causeth shame. NIV 5 He who gathers crops in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son. WBT 6 Blessings [are] upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked. NIV 6 Blessings crown the head of the righteous, but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked. WBT 7 The memory of the just [is] blessed: but the name of the wicked shall perish. NIV 7 The memory of the righteous will be a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot. WBT 8 The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall. NIV 8 The wise in heart accept commands, but a chattering fool comes to ruin. WBT 9 He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known. NIV 9 The man of integrity walks securely, but he who takes crooked paths will be found out. WBT 10 He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall. NIV 10 He who winks maliciously causes grief, and a chattering fool comes to ruin. WBT 11 The mouth of a righteous [man is] a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked. NIV 11 The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked. WBT 12 Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins. NIV 12 Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs. WBT 13 In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod [is] for the back of him that is void of understanding. NIV 13 Wisdom is found on the lips of the discerning, but a rod is for the back of him who lacks judgment. WBT 14 Wise [men] lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish [is] near destruction. NIV 14 Wise men store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool invites ruin. WBT 15 The rich man's wealth [is] his strong city: the destruction of the poor [is] their poverty. NIV 15 The wealth of the rich is their fortified city, but poverty is the ruin of the poor. WBT 16 The labor of the righteous [tendeth] to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin. NIV 16 The wages of the righteous bring them life, but the income of the wicked brings them punishment. WBT 17 He [is in] the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth. NIV 17 He who heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray. WBT 18 He that hideth hatred [with] lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, [is] a fool. NIV 18 He who conceals his hatred has lying lips, and whoever spreads slander is a fool. WBT 19 In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that restraineth his lips [is] wise. NIV 19 When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise. WBT 20 The tongue of the just [is as] choice silver: the heart of the wicked [is] little worth. NIV 20 The tongue of the righteous is choice silver, but the heart of the wicked is of little value. WBT 21 The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom. NIV 21 The lips of the righteous nourish many, but fools die for lack of judgment. WBT 22 The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. NIV 22 The blessing of the LORD brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it. WBT 23 [It is] as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom. NIV 23 A fool finds pleasure in evil conduct, but a man of understanding delights in wisdom. WBT 24 The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted. NIV 24 What the wicked dreads will overtake him; what the righteous desire will be granted. WBT 25 As the whirlwind passeth, so [is] the wicked no [more]: but the righteous [is] an everlasting foundation. NIV 25 When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever. WBT 26 As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so [is] the sluggard to them that send him. NIV 26 As vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so is a sluggard to those who send him. WBT 27 The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened. NIV 27 The fear of the LORD adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short. WBT 28 The hope of the righteous [shall be] gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish. NIV 28 The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing. WBT 29 The way of the LORD [is] strength to the upright: but destruction [shall be] to the workers of iniquity. NIV 29 The way of the LORD is a refuge for the righteous, but it is the ruin of those who do evil. WBT 30 The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth. NIV 30 The righteous will never be uprooted, but the wicked will not remain in the land. WBT 31 The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out. NIV 31 The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, but a perverse tongue will be cut out. WBT 32 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked [speaketh] frowardness. NIV 32 The lips of the righteous know what is fitting, but the mouth of the wicked only what is perverse.
