Proverbs 16

WEB 1 The plans of the heart belong to man, But the answer of the tongue is from Yahweh. NIV 1 To man belong the plans of the heart, but from the LORD comes the reply of the tongue. WEB 2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; But Yahweh weighs the motives. NIV 2 All a man's ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by the LORD. WEB 3 Commit your deeds to Yahweh, And your plans shall succeed. NIV 3 Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. WEB 4 Yahweh has made everything for its own end -- Yes, even the wicked for the day of evil. NIV 4 The LORD works out everything for his own ends-- even the wicked for a day of disaster. WEB 5 Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to Yahweh: They shall assuredly not be unpunished. NIV 5 The LORD detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished. WEB 6 By mercy and truth iniquity is atoned for. By the fear of Yahweh men depart from evil. NIV 6 Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the LORD a man avoids evil. WEB 7 When a man's ways please Yahweh, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. NIV 7 When a man's ways are pleasing to the LORD, he makes even his enemies live at peace with him. WEB 8 Better is a little with righteousness, Than great revenues with injustice. NIV 8 Better a little with righteousness than much gain with injustice. WEB 9 A man's heart plans his course, But Yahweh directs his steps. NIV 9 In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps. WEB 10 Inspired judgments are on the lips of the king. His shall not betray his mouth. NIV 10 The lips of a king speak as an oracle, and his mouth should not betray justice. WEB 11 Honest balances and scales are Yahweh's; All the weights in the bag are his work. NIV 11 Honest scales and balances are from the LORD; all the weights in the bag are of his making. WEB 12 It is an abomination for kings to do wrong, For the throne is established by righteousness. NIV 12 Kings detest wrongdoing, for a throne is established through righteousness. WEB 13 Righteous lips are the delight of kings. They value one who speaks the truth. NIV 13 Kings take pleasure in honest lips; they value a man who speaks the truth. WEB 14 The king's wrath is a messenger of death, But a wise man will pacify it. NIV 14 A king's wrath is a messenger of death, but a wise man will appease it. WEB 15 In the light of the king's face is life. His favor is like a cloud of the spring rain. NIV 15 When a king's face brightens, it means life; his favor is like a rain cloud in spring. WEB 16 How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! Yes, to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver. NIV 16 How much better to get wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than silver! WEB 17 The highway of the upright is to depart from evil. He who keeps his way preserves his soul. NIV 17 The highway of the upright avoids evil; he who guards his way guards his life. WEB 18 Pride goes before destruction, A haughty spirit before a fall. NIV 18 Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. WEB 19 It is better to be of a lowly spirit with the poor, Than to divide the plunder with the proud. NIV 19 Better to be lowly in spirit and among the oppressed than to share plunder with the proud. WEB 20 He who gives heed to the Word finds prosperity. Whoever trusts in Yahweh is blessed. NIV 20 Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is he who trusts in the LORD. WEB 21 The wise in heart shall be called prudent. Pleasantness of the lips promotes instruction. NIV 21 The wise in heart are called discerning, and pleasant words promote instruction. WEB 22 Understanding is a fountain of life to one who has it, But the punishment of fools is their folly.
