CSB 1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel: NIV 1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel: CSB 2 For gaining wisdom and being instructed; for understanding insightful sayings; NIV 2 for attaining wisdom and discipline; for understanding words of insight; CSB 3 for receiving wise instruction [in] righteousness, justice, and integrity; NIV 3 for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life, doing what is right and just and fair; CSB 4 for teaching shrewdness to the inexperienced, knowledge and discretion to a young man- NIV 4 for giving prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young-- CSB 5 a wise man will listen and increase his learning, and a discerning man will obtain guidance- NIV 5 let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance-- CSB 6 for understanding a proverb or a parable, the words of the wise, and their riddles. NIV 6 for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise. CSB 7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction. NIV 7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. CSB 8 Listen, my son, to your father's instruction, and don't reject your mother's teaching, NIV 8 Listen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching. CSB 9 for they will be a garland of grace on your head and a [gold] chain around your neck. NIV 9 They will be a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck. CSB 10 My son, if sinners entice you, don't be persuaded. NIV 10 My son, if sinners entice you, do not give in to them.
