Proverbs 3

CJB 1 My son, don't forget my teaching, keep my commands in your heart; NIV 1 My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, CJB 2 for they will add to you many days, years of life and peace. NIV 2 for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity. CJB 3 Do not let grace and truth leave you -bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. NIV 3 Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. CJB 4 Then you will win favor and esteem in the sight of God and of people. NIV 4 Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. CJB 5 Trust in ADONAI with all your heart; do not rely on your own understanding. NIV 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; CJB 6 In all your ways acknowledge him; then he will level your paths. NIV 6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. CJB 7 Don't be conceited about your own wisdom; but fear ADONAI, and turn from evil. NIV 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. CJB 8 This will bring health to your body and give strength to your bones. CJB 11 My son, don't despise ADONAI's discipline or resent his reproof; NIV 11 My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline and do not resent his rebuke, CJB 12 for ADONAI corrects those he loves like a father who delights in his son. NIV 12 because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in. CJB 13 Happy the person who finds wisdom, the person who acquires understanding; NIV 13 Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding, CJB 14 for her profit exceeds that of silver, gaining her is better than gold, NIV 14 for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. CJB 15 she is more precious than pearls -nothing you want can compare with her. NIV 15 She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. CJB 16 Long life is in her right hand, riches and honor in her left. NIV 16 Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. CJB 17 Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. NIV 17 Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. CJB 18 She is a tree of life to those who grasp her; whoever holds fast to her will be made happy. NIV 18 She is a tree of life to those who embrace her; those who lay hold of her will be blessed. CJB 19 ADONAI by wisdom founded the earth, by understanding he established the heavens, NIV 19 By wisdom the LORD laid the earth's foundations, by understanding he set the heavens in place; CJB 20 by his knowledge the deep [springs] burst open and the dew condenses from the sky. NIV 20 by his knowledge the deeps were divided, and the clouds let drop the dew. CJB 21 My son, don't let these slip from your sight; preserve common sense and discretion; NIV 21 My son, preserve sound judgment and discernment, do not let them out of your sight; CJB 22 they will be life for your being and grace for your neck. NIV 22 they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. CJB 23 Then you will walk your way securely, without hurting your foot. NIV 23 Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble; CJB 24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. CJB 25 Don't be afraid of sudden terror or destruction caused by the wicked, when it comes; NIV 25 Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, CJB 26 for you can rely on ADONAI; he will keep your foot from being caught in a trap. NIV 26 for the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being snared. CJB 27 Don't withhold good from someone entitled to it when you have in hand the power to do it. NIV 27 Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act. CJB 28 Don't tell your neighbor, "Go away! Come another time; I'll give it to you tomorrow," when you have it now. NIV 28 Do not say to your neighbor, "Come back later; I'll give it tomorrow"-- when you now have it with you. CJB 29 Don't plan harm against your neighbor who lives beside you trustingly. NIV 29 Do not plot harm against your neighbor, who lives trustfully near you. CJB 30 Don't quarrel with someone for no reason, if he has done you no harm. NIV 30 Do not accuse a man for no reason-- when he has done you no harm. CJB 31 Don't envy a man of violence, don't choose any of his ways; NIV 31 Do not envy a violent man or choose any of his ways, CJB 32 for the perverse is an abomination to ADONAI, but he shares his secret counsel with the upright. NIV 32 for the LORD detests a perverse man but takes the upright into his confidence. CJB 33 ADONAI's curse is in the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the righteous. NIV 33 The LORD's curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the righteous. CJB 34 The scornful he scorns, but gives grace to the humble. NIV 34 He mocks proud mockers but gives grace to the humble. CJB 35 The wise win honor, but fools win shame. NIV 35 The wise inherit honor, but fools he holds up to shame.
