Proverbs 3

GNT 1 My child, don't forget what I teach you. Always remember what I tell you to do. NIV 1 My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, GNT 2 My teaching will give you a long and prosperous life. NIV 2 for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity. GNT 3 Never let go of loyalty and faithfulness. Tie them around your neck; write them on your heart. NIV 3 Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. GNT 4 If you do this, both God and people will be pleased with you. NIV 4 Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. GNT 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. NIV 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; GNT 6 Remember the Lord in everything you do, and he will show you the right way. NIV 6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. GNT 7 Never let yourself think that you are wiser than you are; simply obey the Lord and refuse to do wrong. NIV 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. GNT 8 If you do, it will be like good medicine, healing your wounds and easing your pains. NIV 8 This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. GNT 9 Honor the Lord by making him an offering from the best of all that your land produces. NIV 9 Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; GNT 10 If you do, your barns will be filled with grain, and you will have too much wine to store it all. NIV 10 then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine. GNT 11 My child, when the Lord corrects you, pay close attention and take it as a warning. NIV 11 My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline and do not resent his rebuke, GNT 12 The Lord corrects those he loves, as parents correct a child of whom they are proud. NIV 12 because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in. GNT 13 Happy is anyone who becomes wise - who comes to have understanding. NIV 13 Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding, GNT 14 There is more profit in it than there is in silver; it is worth more to you than gold. NIV 14 for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. GNT 15 Wisdom is more valuable than jewels; nothing you could want can compare with it. NIV 15 She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. GNT 16 Wisdom offers you long life, as well as wealth and honor. NIV 16 Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. GNT 17 Wisdom can make your life pleasant and lead you safely through it. NIV 17 Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. GNT 18 Those who become wise are happy; wisdom will give them life. NIV 18 She is a tree of life to those who embrace her; those who lay hold of her will be blessed. GNT 19 The Lord created the earth by his wisdom; by his knowledge he set the sky in place. NIV 19 By wisdom the LORD laid the earth's foundations, by understanding he set the heavens in place; GNT 20 His wisdom caused the rivers to flow and the clouds to give rain to the earth. NIV 20 by his knowledge the deeps were divided, and the clouds let drop the dew. GNT 21 My child, hold on to your wisdom and insight. Never let them get away from you. NIV 21 My son, preserve sound judgment and discernment, do not let them out of your sight; GNT 22 They will provide you with life - a pleasant and happy life. NIV 22 they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. GNT 23 You can go safely on your way and never even stumble. NIV 23 Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble; GNT 24 You will not be afraid when you go to bed, and you will sleep soundly through the night. NIV 24 when you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. GNT 25 You will not have to worry about sudden disasters, such as come on the wicked like a storm. NIV 25 Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, GNT 26 The Lord will keep you safe. He will not let you fall into a trap. NIV 26 for the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being snared. GNT 27 Whenever you possibly can, do good to those who need it. NIV 27 Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act. GNT 28 Never tell your neighbors to wait until tomorrow if you can help them now. NIV 28 Do not say to your neighbor, "Come back later; I'll give it tomorrow"-- when you now have it with you. GNT 29 Don't plan anything that will hurt your neighbors; they live beside you, trusting you. NIV 29 Do not plot harm against your neighbor, who lives trustfully near you. GNT 30 Don't argue with others for no reason when they have never done you any harm. NIV 30 Do not accuse a man for no reason-- when he has done you no harm. GNT 31 Don't be jealous of violent people or decide to act as they do, NIV 31 Do not envy a violent man or choose any of his ways, GNT 32 because the Lord hates people who do evil, but he takes righteous people into his confidence. NIV 32 for the LORD detests a perverse man but takes the upright into his confidence. GNT 33 The Lord puts a curse on the homes of the wicked, but blesses the homes of the righteous. NIV 33 The LORD's curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the righteous. GNT 34 He has no use for conceited people, but shows favor to those who are humble. NIV 34 He mocks proud mockers but gives grace to the humble. GNT 35 Wise people will gain an honorable reputation, but stupid people will only add to their own disgrace. NIV 35 The wise inherit honor, but fools he holds up to shame.
