Proverbs 31

NLT 1 These are the sayings of King Lemuel, an oracle that his mother taught him. NIV 1 The sayings of King Lemuel--an oracle his mother taught him: NLT 2 O my son, O son of my womb, O son of my promises, NIV 2 "O my son, O son of my womb, O son of my vows, NLT 3 do not spend your strength on women, on those who ruin kings. NIV 4 "It is not for kings, O Lemuel-- not for kings to drink wine, not for rulers to crave beer, NLT 5 For if they drink, they may forget their duties and be unable to give justice to those who are oppressed. Her husband praises her: NIV 28 Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: NLT 29 "There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all!" NIV 29 "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all." NLT 30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the LORD will be greatly praised. NIV 30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. NLT 31 Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise. NIV 31 Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
