Proverbs 31

WEB 1 The words of king Lemuel; the oracle which his mother taught him. NIV 1 The sayings of King Lemuel--an oracle his mother taught him: WEB 2 "Oh, my son!" Oh, son of my womb! Oh, son of my vows! NIV 2 "O my son, O son of my womb, O son of my vows, WEB 3 Don't give your strength to women, Nor your ways to that which destroys kings. NIV 3 do not spend your strength on women, your vigor on those who ruin kings. WEB 4 It is not for kings, Lemuel; it is not for kings to drink wine; Nor for princes to say, 'Where is strong drink?' NIV 4 "It is not for kings, O Lemuel-- not for kings to drink wine, not for rulers to crave beer, WEB 5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, And pervert the justice due to anyone who is afflicted. NIV 5 lest they drink and forget what the law decrees, and deprive all the oppressed of their rights. WEB 6 Give strong drink to him who is ready to perish; And wine to the bitter in soul: NIV 6 Give beer to those who are perishing, wine to those who are in anguish; WEB 7 Let him drink, and forget his poverty, And remember his misery no more. WEB 20 She stretches out her hand to the poor; Yes, she reaches forth her hands to the needy. NIV 20 She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy. WEB 21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household; For all her household are clothed with scarlet. NIV 21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet. WEB 22 She makes for herself carpets of tapestry. Her clothing is fine linen and purple. NIV 22 She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple. WEB 23 Her husband is respected in the gates, When he sits among the elders of the land. NIV 23 Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land. WEB 24 She makes linen garments and sells them, And delivers sashes to the merchant. NIV 27 She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. WEB 28 Her children rise up and call her blessed. NIV 31 Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
