NCV 2 What I am telling you is good, so do not forget what I teach you. NIV 2 I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching. NCV 3 When I was a young boy in my father's house and like an only child to my mother, NIV 3 When I was a boy in my father's house, still tender, and an only child of my mother, NCV 4 my father taught me and said, "Hold on to my words with all your heart. Keep my commands and you will live. NIV 4 he taught me and said, "Lay hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands and you will live. NCV 5 Get wisdom and understanding. Don't forget or ignore my words. NIV 5 Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or swerve from them. NCV 6 Hold on to wisdom, and it will take care of you. Love it, and it will keep you safe. NIV 6 Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. NCV 7 Wisdom is the most important thing; so get wisdom. If it costs everything you have, get understanding. NIV 7 Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding. NCV 8 Treasure wisdom, and it will make you great; hold on to it, and it will bring you honor. NIV 8 Esteem her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honor you. NCV 9 It will be like flowers in your hair and like a beautiful crown on your head." NIV 9 She will set a garland of grace on your head and present you with a crown of splendor." NCV 10 My child, listen and accept what I say. Then you will have a long life. NIV 10 Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many. NCV 11 I am guiding you in the way of wisdom, and I am leading you on the right path. NIV 11 I guide you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths. NCV 12 Nothing will hold you back; you will not be overwhelmed. NIV 12 When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble. NIV 13 Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life. NCV 14 Don't follow the ways of the wicked; don't do what evil people do. NIV 14 Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evil men. NCV 15 Avoid their ways, and don't follow them. Stay away from them and keep on going, NIV 15 Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way. NCV 16 because they cannot sleep until they do evil. They cannot rest until they harm someone. NIV 16 For they cannot sleep till they do evil; they are robbed of slumber till they make someone fall. NCV 17 They feast on wickedness and cruelty as if they were eating bread and drinking wine. NIV 17 They eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence. NCV 18 The way of the good person is like the light of dawn, growing brighter and brighter until full daylight. NIV 18 The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. NCV 19 But the wicked walk around in the dark; they can't even see what makes them stumble. NIV 19 But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble. NCV 20 My child, pay attention to my words; listen closely to what I say. NIV 20 My son, pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words. NCV 21 Don't ever forget my words; keep them always in mind. NIV 21 Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; NCV 22 They are the key to life for those who find them; they bring health to the whole body.
