Proverbs 5

KJVA 1 My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding: NIV 1 My son, pay attention to my wisdom, listen well to my words of insight, KJVA 2 That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge. NIV 2 that you may maintain discretion and your lips may preserve knowledge. KJVA 3 For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil: NIV 3 For the lips of an adulteress drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil; KJVA 4 But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword. NIV 4 but in the end she is bitter as gall, sharp as a double-edged sword. KJVA 5 Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell. NIV 5 Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to the grave. KJVA 6 Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable , that thou canst not know them. NIV 6 She gives no thought to the way of life; her paths are crooked, but she knows it not. KJVA 7 Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth. NIV 7 Now then, my sons, listen to me; do not turn aside from what I say. KJVA 8 Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house: NIV 8 Keep to a path far from her, do not go near the door of her house, KJVA 9 Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel: NIV 9 lest you give your best strength to others and your years to one who is cruel, KJVA 10 Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger; NIV 10 lest strangers feast on your wealth and your toil enrich another man's house. KJVA 11 And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed , NIV 11 At the end of your life you will groan, when your flesh and body are spent. KJVA 12 And say , How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; NIV 12 You will say, "How I hated discipline! How my heart spurned correction! KJVA 13 And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers , nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me! NIV 13 I would not obey my teachers or listen to my instructors. KJVA 14 I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly. NIV 14 I have come to the brink of utter ruin in the midst of the whole assembly." KJVA 15 Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well. NIV 15 Drink water from your own cistern, running water from your own well. KJVA 16 Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets. NIV 16 Should your springs overflow in the streets, your streams of water in the public squares? KJVA 17 Let them be only thine own, and not strangers ' with thee. NIV 17 Let them be yours alone, never to be shared with strangers. KJVA 18 Let thy fountain be blessed : and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. NIV 18 May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth. KJVA 19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love. NIV 19 A loving doe, a graceful deer-- may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be captivated by her love. KJVA 20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman , and embrace the bosom of a stranger? NIV 20 Why be captivated, my son, by an adulteress? Why embrace the bosom of another man's wife? KJVA 21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings. NIV 21 For a man's ways are in full view of the LORD, and he examines all his paths. KJVA 22 His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins. NIV 22 The evil deeds of a wicked man ensnare him; the cords of his sin hold him fast. KJVA 23 He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray . NIV 23 He will die for lack of discipline, led astray by his own great folly.
