Proverbs 8

YLT 1 Doth not wisdom call? And understanding give forth her voice? NIV 1 Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice? YLT 2 At the head of high places by the way, Between the paths she hath stood, NIV 2 On the heights along the way, where the paths meet, she takes her stand; YLT 3 At the side of the gates, at the mouth of the city, The entrance of the openings, she crieth aloud, NIV 3 beside the gates leading into the city, at the entrances, she cries aloud: YLT 4 `Unto you, O men, I call, And my voice [is] unto the sons of men. NIV 4 "To you, O men, I call out; I raise my voice to all mankind. YLT 5 Understand, ye simple ones, prudence, And ye fools, understand the heart, NIV 5 You who are simple, gain prudence; you who are foolish, gain understanding. YLT 6 Hearken, for noble things I speak, And the opening of my lips [is] uprightness. NIV 6 Listen, for I have worthy things to say; I open my lips to speak what is right. YLT 7 For truth doth my mouth utter, And an abomination to my lips [is] wickedness. NIV 7 My mouth speaks what is true, for my lips detest wickedness. YLT 8 In righteousness [are] all the sayings of my mouth, Nothing in them is froward and perverse. NIV 8 All the words of my mouth are just; none of them is crooked or perverse. YLT 9 All of them [are] plain to the intelligent, And upright to those finding knowledge. NIV 9 To the discerning all of them are right; they are faultless to those who have knowledge. YLT 10 Receive my instruction, and not silver, And knowledge rather than choice gold. NIV 10 Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, YLT 11 For better [is] wisdom than rubies, Yea, all delights are not comparable with it. NIV 11 for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her. YLT 12 I, wisdom, have dwelt with prudence, And a knowledge of devices I find out. NIV 12 "I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion. YLT 13 The fear of Jehovah [is] to hate evil; Pride, and arrogance, and an evil way, And a froward mouth, I have hated. NIV 13 To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech. YLT 14 Mine [is] counsel and substance, I [am] understanding, I have might. NIV 14 Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have understanding and power. YLT 15 By me kings reign, and princes decree righteousness, NIV 15 By me kings reign and rulers make laws that are just; YLT 16 By me do chiefs rule, and nobles, All judges of the earth. NIV 16 by me princes govern, and all nobles who rule on earth. YLT 17 I love those loving me, And those seeking me earnestly do find me. NIV 17 I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me. YLT 18 Wealth and honour [are] with me, Lasting substance and righteousness. NIV 18 With me are riches and honor, enduring wealth and prosperity. YLT 19 Better [is] my fruit than gold, even fine gold, And mine increase than choice silver. NIV 19 My fruit is better than fine gold; what I yield surpasses choice silver. YLT 20 In a path of righteousness I cause to walk, In midst of paths of judgment, NIV 20 I walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of justice, YLT 21 To cause my lovers to inherit substance, Yea, their treasures I fill. NIV 21 bestowing wealth on those who love me and making their treasuries full. YLT 22 Jehovah possessed me -- the beginning of His way, Before His works since then. NIV 22 "The LORD brought me forth as the first of his works, before his deeds of old; YLT 23 From the age I was anointed, from the first, From former states of the earth. NIV 23 I was appointed from eternity, from the beginning, before the world began. YLT 24 In there being no depths, I was brought forth, In there being no fountains heavy [with] waters, NIV 24 When there were no oceans, I was given birth, when there were no springs abounding with water; YLT 25 Before mountains were sunk, Before heights, I was brought forth. NIV 25 before the mountains were settled in place, before the hills, I was given birth, YLT 26 While He had not made the earth, and out-places, And the top of the dusts of the world. NIV 26 before he made the earth or its fields or any of the dust of the world. YLT 27 In His preparing the heavens I [am] there, In His decreeing a circle on the face of the deep, NIV 27 I was there when he set the heavens in place, when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep, YLT 28 In His strengthening clouds above, In His making strong fountains of the deep, NIV 28 when he established the clouds above and fixed securely the fountains of the deep, YLT 29 In His setting for the sea its limit, And the waters transgress not His command, In His decreeing the foundations of earth, NIV 29 when he gave the sea its boundary so the waters would not overstep his command, and when he marked out the foundations of the earth. YLT 30 Then I am near Him, a workman, And I am a delight -- day by day. Rejoicing before Him at all times, NIV 30 Then I was the craftsman at his side. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence, YLT 31 Rejoicing in the habitable part of His earth, And my delights [are] with the sons of men. NIV 31 rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in mankind. YLT 32 And now, ye sons, hearken to me, Yea, happy are they who keep my ways. NIV 32 "Now then, my sons, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways. YLT 33 Hear instruction, and be wise, and slight not. NIV 33 Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not ignore it. YLT 34 O the happiness of the man hearkening to me, To watch at my doors day by day, To watch at the door-posts of my entrance. NIV 34 Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. YLT 35 For whoso is finding me, hath found life, And bringeth out good-will from Jehovah. NIV 35 For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the LORD. YLT 36 And whoso is missing me, is wronging his soul, All hating me have loved death! NIV 36 But whoever fails to find me harms himself; all who hate me love death."
