Proverbs 9

WBT 1 Wisdom hath built her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars: NIV 1 Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn out its seven pillars. WBT 2 She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table. NIV 2 She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table. WBT 3 She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city, NIV 3 She has sent out her maids, and she calls from the highest point of the city. WBT 4 Whoever [is] simple, let him turn in hither: [as for] him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, NIV 4 "Let all who are simple come in here!" she says to those who lack judgment. WBT 5 Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine [which] I have mingled. NIV 5 "Come, eat my food and drink the wine I have mixed. WBT 6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding. NIV 6 Leave your simple ways and you will live; walk in the way of understanding. WBT 7 He that reproveth a scorner, getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked [man getteth] himself a blot. NIV 7 "Whoever corrects a mocker invites insult; whoever rebukes a wicked man incurs abuse. WBT 8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he shall hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. NIV 8 Do not rebuke a mocker or he will hate you; rebuke a wise man and he will love you. WBT 9 Give [instruction] to a wise [man], and he will be yet wiser: teach a just [man], and he will increase in learning. NIV 9 Instruct a wise man and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man and he will add to his learning. WBT 10 The fear of the LORD [is] the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy [is] understanding. NIV 10 "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. WBT 11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased. NIV 11 For through me your days will be many, and years will be added to your life. WBT 12 If thou art wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but [if] thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear [it]. NIV 12 If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you; if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer." WBT 13 A foolish woman [is] clamorous: [she is] simple, and knoweth nothing. NIV 13 The woman Folly is loud; she is undisciplined and without knowledge. WBT 14 For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city, NIV 14 She sits at the door of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city, WBT 15 To call passengers who go right on their ways: NIV 15 calling out to those who pass by, who go straight on their way. WBT 16 Whoever [is] simple, let him turn in hither: and [as for] him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, NIV 16 "Let all who are simple come in here!" she says to those who lack judgment. WBT 17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread [eaten] in secret is pleasant. NIV 17 "Stolen water is sweet; food eaten in secret is delicious!" WBT 18 But he knoweth not that the dead [are] there; [and that] her guests [are] in the depths of hell. NIV 18 But little do they know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of the grave.
