Psalm 147

CEB 1 Praise the LORD! Because it is good to sing praise to our God! Because it is a pleasure to make beautiful praise! NRS 1 Praise the Lord! How good it is to sing praises to our God; for he is gracious, and a song of praise is fitting. CEB 2 The LORD rebuilds Jerusalem, gathering up Israel's exiles. NRS 2 The Lord builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the outcasts of Israel. CEB 3 God heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds. NRS 3 He heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds. CEB 4 God counts the stars by number, giving each one a name. NRS 4 He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names. CEB 5 Our Lord is great and so strong! God's knowledge can't be grasped! NRS 5 Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure. CEB 6 The LORD helps the poor, but throws the wicked down on the dirt! NRS 6 The Lord lifts up the downtrodden; he casts the wicked to the ground. CEB 7 Sing to the LORD with thanks; sing praises to our God with a lyre! NRS 7 Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving; make melody to our God on the lyre. CEB 8 God covers the skies with clouds; God makes rain for the earth; God makes the mountains sprout green grass. NRS 8 He covers the heavens with clouds, prepares rain for the earth, makes grass grow on the hills. CEB 9 God gives food to the animals— even to the baby ravens when they cry out. NRS 9 He gives to the animals their food, and to the young ravens when they cry. CEB 10 God doesn't prize the strength of a horse; God doesn't treasure the legs of a runner. NRS 10 His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor his pleasure in the speed of a runner; CEB 11 No. The LORD treasures the people who honor him, the people who wait for his faithful love. NRS 11 but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love. CEB 12 Worship the LORD, Jerusalem! Praise your God, Zion! NRS 12 Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion! CEB 13 Because God secures the bars on your gates, God blesses the children you have there. NRS 13 For he strengthens the bars of your gates; he blesses your children within you. CEB 14 God establishes your borders peacefully. God fills you full with the very best wheat. NRS 14 He grants peace within your borders; he fills you with the finest of wheat. CEB 15 God issues his command to the earth— God's word speeds off fast! NRS 15 He sends out his command to the earth; his word runs swiftly. CEB 16 God spreads snow like it was wool; God scatters frost like it was ashes; NRS 16 He gives snow like wool; he scatters frost like ashes. CEB 17 God throws his hail down like crumbs— who can endure God's freezing cold? NRS 17 He hurls down hail like crumbs— who can stand before his cold? CEB 18 Then God issues his word and melts it all away! God makes his winds blow; the water flows again. NRS 18 He sends out his word, and melts them; he makes his wind blow, and the waters flow. CEB 19 God proclaims his word to Jacob; his statutes and rules to Israel. NRS 19 He declares his word to Jacob, his statutes and ordinances to Israel. CEB 20 God hasn't done that with any other nation; those nations have no knowledge of God's rules. Praise the LORD! NRS 20 He has not dealt thus with any other nation; they do not know his ordinances. Praise the Lord!
