Psalm 10

CSB 1 Lord, why do You stand so far away? Why do You hide in times of trouble? NIV 1 Why, O LORD, do you stand far off ? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? CSB 2 In arrogance the wicked relentlessly pursue the afflicted; let them be caught in the schemes they have devised. NIV 2 In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises. CSB 3 For the wicked one boasts about his own cravings; the one who is greedy curses and despises the Lord. NIV 3 He boasts of the cravings of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the LORD. CSB 4 In all his scheming, the wicked arrogantly thinks: "There is no accountability, [since] God does not exist." NIV 4 In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God. CSB 5 His ways are always secure; Your lofty judgments are beyond his sight; he scoffs at all his adversaries. NIV 5 His ways are always prosperous; he is haughty and your laws are far from him; he sneers at all his enemies. CSB 6 He says to himself, "I will never be moved- from generation to generation without calamity." NIV 6 He says to himself, "Nothing will shake me; I'll always be happy and never have trouble." CSB 7 Cursing, deceit, and violence fill his mouth; trouble and malice are under his tongue. NIV 7 His mouth is full of curses and lies and threats; trouble and evil are under his tongue. CSB 8 He waits in ambush near the villages; he kills the innocent in secret places; his eyes are on the lookout for the helpless. NIV 8 He lies in wait near the villages; from ambush he murders the innocent, watching in secret for his victims. CSB 9 He lurks in secret like a lion in a thicket. He lurks in order to seize the afflicted. He seizes the afflicted and drags him in his net. NIV 9 He lies in wait like a lion in cover; he lies in wait to catch the helpless; he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net. CSB 10 He crouches and bends down; the helpless fall because of his strength. NIV 10 His victims are crushed, they collapse; they fall under his strength. CSB 11 He says to himself, "God has forgotten; He hides His face and will never see." NIV 11 He says to himself, "God has forgotten; he covers his face and never sees." CSB 12 Rise up, Lord God! Lift up Your hand. Do not forget the afflicted. NIV 12 Arise, LORD! Lift up your hand, O God. Do not forget the helpless. CSB 13 Why has the wicked despised God? He says to himself, "You will not demand an account." NIV 13 Why does the wicked man revile God? Why does he say to himself, "He won't call me to account"? CSB 14 But You Yourself have seen trouble and grief, observing it in order to take the matter into Your hands. The helpless entrusts himself to You; You are a helper of the fatherless. NIV 14 But you, O God, do see trouble and grief; you consider it to take it in hand. The victim commits himself to you; you are the helper of the fatherless. CSB 15 Break the arm of the wicked and evil person; call his wickedness into account until nothing remains of it. NIV 15 Break the arm of the wicked and evil man; call him to account for his wickedness that would not be found out. CSB 16 The Lord is King forever and ever; the nations will perish from His land. NIV 16 The LORD is King for ever and ever; the nations will perish from his land. CSB 17 Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will strengthen their hearts. You will listen carefully, NIV 17 You hear, O LORD, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, CSB 18 doing justice for the fatherless and the oppressed, so that men of the earth may terrify [them] no more. NIV 18 defending the fatherless and the oppressed, in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more.
