Psalm 104

NLT 1 Praise the LORD, I tell myself; O LORD my God, how great you are! You are robed with honor and with majesty; NIV 1 Praise the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty. NLT 2 you are dressed in a robe of light. You stretch out the starry curtain of the heavens; NIV 2 He wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent NLT 3 you lay out the rafters of your home in the rain clouds. You make the clouds your chariots; you ride upon the wings of the wind. NIV 3 and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters. He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind. NLT 4 The winds are your messengers; flames of fire are your servants. NIV 4 He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants. NLT 5 You placed the world on its foundation so it would never be moved. NIV 5 He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved. NLT 6 You clothed the earth with floods of water, water that covered even the mountains. NIV 6 You covered it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. NLT 7 At the sound of your rebuke, the water fled; at the sound of your thunder, it fled away. NIV 7 But at your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder they took to flight; NLT 8 Mountains rose and valleys sank to the levels you decreed. NIV 8 they flowed over the mountains, they went down into the valleys, to the place you assigned for them. NLT 9 Then you set a firm boundary for the seas, so they would never again cover the earth. NIV 9 You set a boundary they cannot cross; never again will they cover the earth. NLT 10 You make the springs pour water into ravines, so streams gush down from the mountains. NIV 10 He makes springs pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains. NLT 11 They provide water for all the animals, and the wild donkeys quench their thirst. NIV 11 They give water to all the beasts of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. NLT 12 The birds nest beside the streams and sing among the branches of the trees. NIV 12 The birds of the air nest by the waters; they sing among the branches. NLT 13 You send rain on the mountains from your heavenly home, and you fill the earth with the fruit of your labor. NIV 13 He waters the mountains from his upper chambers; the earth is satisfied by the fruit of his work. NLT 14 You cause grass to grow for the cattle. You cause plants to grow for people to use. You allow them to produce food from the earth -- NIV 14 He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for man to cultivate-- bringing forth food from the earth: NLT 15 wine to make them glad, olive oil as lotion for their skin, and bread to give them strength. NIV 15 wine that gladdens the heart of man, oil to make his face shine, and bread that sustains his heart. NLT 16 The trees of the LORD are well cared for -- the cedars of Lebanon that he planted. NIV 16 The trees of the LORD are well watered, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted. NLT 17 There the birds make their nests, and the storks make their homes in the firs. NIV 17 There the birds make their nests; the stork has its home in the pine trees. NLT 18 High in the mountains are pastures for the wild goats, and the rocks form a refuge for rock badgers. NIV 18 The high mountains belong to the wild goats; the crags are a refuge for the coneys. NLT 19 You made the moon to mark the seasons and the sun that knows when to set. NIV 19 The moon marks off the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down. NLT 20 You send the darkness, and it becomes night, when all the forest animals prowl about. NIV 20 You bring darkness, it becomes night, and all the beasts of the forest prowl. NLT 21 Then the young lions roar for their food, but they are dependent on God. NIV 21 The lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God. NLT 22 At dawn they slink back into their dens to rest. NIV 22 The sun rises, and they steal away; they return and lie down in their dens. NLT 23 Then people go off to their work; they labor until the evening shadows fall again. NIV 23 Then man goes out to his work, to his labor until evening. NLT 24 O LORD, what a variety of things you have made! In wisdom you have made them all. The earth is full of your creatures. NIV 24 How many are your works, O LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. NLT 25 Here is the ocean, vast and wide, teeming with life of every kind, both great and small. NIV 25 There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number-- living things both large and small. NLT 26 See the ships sailing along, and Leviathan, which you made to play in the sea. NIV 26 There the ships go to and fro, and the leviathan, which you formed to frolic there. NLT 27 Every one of these depends on you to give them their food as they need it. NIV 27 These all look to you to give them their food at the proper time. NLT 28 When you supply it, they gather it. You open your hand to feed them, and they are satisfied. NIV 28 When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. NLT 29 But if you turn away from them, they panic. When you take away their breath, they die and turn again to dust. NIV 29 When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust. NLT 30 When you send your Spirit, new life is born to replenish all the living of the earth. NIV 30 When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the earth. NLT 31 May the glory of the LORD last forever! The LORD rejoices in all he has made! NIV 31 May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in his works-- NLT 32 The earth trembles at his glance; the mountains burst into flame at his touch. NIV 32 he who looks at the earth, and it trembles, who touches the mountains, and they smoke. NLT 33 I will sing to the LORD as long as I live. I will praise my God to my last breath! NIV 33 I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. NLT 34 May he be pleased by all these thoughts about him, for I rejoice in the LORD. NIV 34 May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the LORD. NLT 35 Let all sinners vanish from the face of the earth; let the wicked disappear forever. As for me -- I will praise the LORD! Praise the LORD! NIV 35 But may sinners vanish from the earth and the wicked be no more. Praise the LORD, O my soul. Praise the LORD.
