Psalm 104

RSV 1 Bless the LORD, O my soul! O LORD my God, thou art very great! Thou art clothed with honor and majesty, NIV 1 Praise the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty. RSV 2 who coverest thyself with light as with a garment, who hast stretched out the heavens like a tent, NIV 2 He wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent RSV 3 who hast laid the beams of thy chambers on the waters, who makest the clouds thy chariot, who ridest on the wings of the wind, NIV 3 and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters. He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind. RSV 4 who makest the winds thy messengers, fire and flame thy ministers. NIV 4 He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants. RSV 5 Thou didst set the earth on its foundations, so that it should never be shaken. NIV 5 He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved. RSV 6 Thou didst cover it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. NIV 6 You covered it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. RSV 7 At thy rebuke they fled; at the sound of thy thunder they took to flight. NIV 7 But at your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder they took to flight; RSV 8 The mountains rose, the valleys sank down to the place which thou didst appoint for them. NIV 8 they flowed over the mountains, they went down into the valleys, to the place you assigned for them. RSV 9 Thou didst set a bound which they should not pass, so that they might not again cover the earth. NIV 9 You set a boundary they cannot cross; never again will they cover the earth. RSV 10 Thou makest springs gush forth in the valleys; they flow between the hills, NIV 10 He makes springs pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains. RSV 11 they give drink to every beast of the field; the wild asses quench their thirst. NIV 11 They give water to all the beasts of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. RSV 12 By them the birds of the air have their habitation; they sing among the branches. NIV 12 The birds of the air nest by the waters; they sing among the branches. RSV 13 From thy lofty abode thou waterest the mountains; the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy work. NIV 13 He waters the mountains from his upper chambers; the earth is satisfied by the fruit of his work. RSV 14 Thou dost cause the grass to grow for the cattle, and plants for man to cultivate, that he may bring forth food from the earth, NIV 14 He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for man to cultivate-- bringing forth food from the earth: RSV 15 and wine to gladden the heart of man, oil to make his face shine, and bread to strengthen man's heart. NIV 15 wine that gladdens the heart of man, oil to make his face shine, and bread that sustains his heart. RSV 16 The trees of the LORD are watered abundantly, the cedars of Lebanon which he planted. NIV 16 The trees of the LORD are well watered, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted. RSV 17 In them the birds build their nests; the stork has her home in the fir trees. NIV 17 There the birds make their nests; the stork has its home in the pine trees. RSV 18 The high mountains are for the wild goats; the rocks are a refuge for the badgers. NIV 18 The high mountains belong to the wild goats; the crags are a refuge for the coneys. RSV 19 Thou hast made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows its time for setting. NIV 19 The moon marks off the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down. RSV 20 Thou makest darkness, and it is night, when all the beasts of the forest creep forth. NIV 20 You bring darkness, it becomes night, and all the beasts of the forest prowl. RSV 21 The young lions roar for their prey, seeking their food from God. NIV 21 The lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God. RSV 22 When the sun rises, they get them away and lie down in their dens. NIV 22 The sun rises, and they steal away; they return and lie down in their dens. RSV 23 Man goes forth to his work and to his labor until the evening. NIV 23 Then man goes out to his work, to his labor until evening. RSV 24 O LORD, how manifold are thy works! In wisdom hast thou made them all; the earth is full of thy creatures. NIV 24 How many are your works, O LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. RSV 25 Yonder is the sea, great and wide, which teems with things innumerable, living things both small and great. NIV 25 There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number-- living things both large and small. RSV 26 There go the ships, and Leviathan which thou didst form to sport in it. NIV 26 There the ships go to and fro, and the leviathan, which you formed to frolic there. RSV 27 These all look to thee, to give them their food in due season. NIV 27 These all look to you to give them their food at the proper time. RSV 28 When thou givest to them, they gather it up; when thou openest thy hand, they are filled with good things. NIV 28 When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. RSV 29 When thou hidest thy face, they are dismayed; when thou takest away their breath, they die and return to their dust. NIV 29 When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust. RSV 30 When thou sendest forth thy Spirit, they are created; and thou renewest the face of the ground. NIV 30 When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the earth. RSV 31 May the glory of the LORD endure for ever, may the LORD rejoice in his works, NIV 31 May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in his works-- RSV 32 who looks on the earth and it trembles, who touches the mountains and they smoke! NIV 32 he who looks at the earth, and it trembles, who touches the mountains, and they smoke. RSV 33 I will sing to the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being. NIV 33 I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. RSV 34 May my meditation be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the LORD. NIV 34 May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the LORD. RSV 35 Let sinners be consumed from the earth, and let the wicked be no more! Bless the LORD, O my soul! Praise the LORD! NIV 35 But may sinners vanish from the earth and the wicked be no more. Praise the LORD, O my soul. Praise the LORD.
