Psalm 105

DBY 1 Give ye thanks unto Jehovah, call upon his name; make known his acts among the peoples. NIV 1 Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. DBY 2 Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him; meditate upon all his wondrous works. NIV 2 Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. DBY 3 Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek Jehovah. NIV 3 Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. DBY 4 Seek Jehovah and his strength, seek his face continually; NIV 4 Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always. DBY 5 Remember his wondrous works which he hath done, his miracles and the judgments of his mouth: NIV 5 Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced, DBY 6 Ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye sons of Jacob, his chosen ones. NIV 6 O descendants of Abraham his servant, O sons of Jacob, his chosen ones. DBY 7 He, Jehovah, is our God; his judgments are in all the earth. NIV 7 He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth. DBY 8 He is ever mindful of his covenant, -- the word which he commanded to a thousand generations, -- NIV 8 He remembers his covenant forever, the word he commanded, for a thousand generations, DBY 9 Which he made with Abraham, and of his oath unto Isaac; NIV 9 the covenant he made with Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac. DBY 10 And he confirmed it unto Jacob for a statute, unto Israel for an everlasting covenant, NIV 10 He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant: DBY 11 Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance; NIV 11 "To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion you will inherit." DBY 12 When they were a few men in number, of small account, and strangers in it. NIV 12 When they were but few in number, few indeed, and strangers in it, DBY 13 And they went from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another people. NIV 13 they wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another. DBY 14 He suffered no man to oppress them, and reproved kings for their sakes, NIV 14 He allowed no one to oppress them; for their sake he rebuked kings: DBY 15 [Saying,] Touch not mine anointed ones, and do my prophets no harm. NIV 15 "Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm." DBY 16 And he called for a famine upon the land; he broke the whole staff of bread. NIV 16 He called down famine on the land and destroyed all their supplies of food; DBY 17 He sent a man before them: Joseph was sold for a bondman. NIV 17 and he sent a man before them-- Joseph, sold as a slave. DBY 18 They afflicted his feet with fetters; his soul came into irons; NIV 18 They bruised his feet with shackles, his neck was put in irons, DBY 19 Until the time when what he said came about: the word of Jehovah tried him. NIV 19 till what he foretold came to pass, till the word of the LORD proved him true. DBY 20 The king sent and loosed him -- the ruler of peoples -- and let him go free. NIV 20 The king sent and released him, the ruler of peoples set him free. DBY 21 He made him lord of his house, and ruler over all his possessions: NIV 21 He made him master of his household, ruler over all he possessed, DBY 22 To bind his princes at his pleasure, and teach his elders wisdom. NIV 22 to instruct his princes as he pleased and teach his elders wisdom. DBY 23 And Israel came into Egypt, and Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham. NIV 23 Then Israel entered Egypt; Jacob lived as an alien in the land of Ham. DBY 24 And he made his people exceeding fruitful, and made them mightier than their oppressors. NIV 24 The LORD made his people very fruitful; he made them too numerous for their foes, DBY 25 He turned their heart to hate his people, to deal subtilly with his servants. NIV 25 whose hearts he turned to hate his people, to conspire against his servants. DBY 26 He sent Moses his servant, [and] Aaron whom he had chosen: NIV 26 He sent Moses his servant, and Aaron, whom he had chosen. DBY 27 They set his signs among them, and miracles in the land of Ham. NIV 27 They performed his miraculous signs among them, his wonders in the land of Ham. DBY 28 He sent darkness, and made it dark; and they rebelled not against his word. NIV 28 He sent darkness and made the land dark-- for had they not rebelled against his words? DBY 29 He turned their waters into blood, and caused their fish to die. NIV 29 He turned their waters into blood, causing their fish to die. DBY 30 Their land swarmed with frogs, -- in the chambers of their kings. NIV 30 Their land teemed with frogs, which went up into the bedrooms of their rulers. DBY 31 He spoke, and there came dog-flies, [and] gnats in all their borders. NIV 31 He spoke, and there came swarms of flies, and gnats throughout their country. DBY 32 He gave them hail for rain, [and] flaming fire in their land; NIV 32 He turned their rain into hail, with lightning throughout their land; DBY 33 And he smote their vines and their fig-trees, and broke the trees of their borders. NIV 33 he struck down their vines and fig trees and shattered the trees of their country. DBY 34 He spoke, and the locust came, and the cankerworm, even without number; NIV 34 He spoke, and the locusts came, grasshoppers without number; DBY 35 And they devoured every herb in their land, and ate up the fruit of their ground. NIV 35 they ate up every green thing in their land, ate up the produce of their soil. DBY 36 And he smote every firstborn in their land, the firstfruits of all their vigour. NIV 36 Then he struck down all the firstborn in their land, the firstfruits of all their manhood. DBY 37 And he brought them forth with silver and gold; and there was not one feeble among their tribes. NIV 37 He brought out Israel, laden with silver and gold, and from among their tribes no one faltered. DBY 38 Egypt rejoiced at their departure; for the fear of them had fallen upon them. NIV 38 Egypt was glad when they left, because dread of Israel had fallen on them. DBY 39 He spread a cloud for a covering, and fire to give light in the night. NIV 39 He spread out a cloud as a covering, and a fire to give light at night. DBY 40 They asked, and he brought quails, and satisfied them with the bread of heaven. NIV 40 They asked, and he brought them quail and satisfied them with the bread of heaven. DBY 41 He opened the rock, and waters gushed forth; they ran in the dry places [like] a river. NIV 41 He opened the rock, and water gushed out; like a river it flowed in the desert. DBY 42 For he remembered his holy word, [and] Abraham his servant; NIV 42 For he remembered his holy promise given to his servant Abraham. DBY 43 And he brought forth his people with gladness, his chosen with rejoicing; NIV 43 He brought out his people with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy; DBY 44 And he gave them the lands of the nations, and they took possession of the labour of the peoples: NIV 44 he gave them the lands of the nations, and they fell heir to what others had toiled for-- DBY 45 That they might keep his statutes, and observe his laws. Hallelujah! NIV 45 that they might keep his precepts and observe his laws. Praise the LORD.
