Psalm 107

DBY 1 Give ye thanks unto Jehovah; for he is good; for his loving-kindness [endureth] for ever. NIV 1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. DBY 2 Let the redeemed of Jehovah say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the oppressor, NIV 2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say this-- those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, DBY 3 And gathered out of the countries, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the sea. NIV 3 those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south. DBY 4 They wandered in the wilderness in a desert way, they found no city of habitation; NIV 4 Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle. DBY 5 Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them: NIV 5 They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away. DBY 6 Then they cried unto Jehovah in their trouble, [and] he delivered them out of their distresses, NIV 6 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. DBY 7 And he led them forth by a right way, that they might go to a city of habitation. NIV 7 He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle. DBY 8 Let them give thanks unto Jehovah for his loving-kindness, and for his wondrous works to the children of men; NIV 8 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men, DBY 9 For he hath satisfied the longing soul and filled the hungry soul with good. NIV 9 for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. DBY 10 Such as inhabit darkness and the shadow of death, bound in affliction and iron, NIV 10 Some sat in darkness and the deepest gloom, prisoners suffering in iron chains, DBY 11 Because they had rebelled against the words of God, and had despised the counsel of the Most High; ... NIV 11 for they had rebelled against the words of God and despised the counsel of the Most High. DBY 12 And he bowed down their heart with labour; they stumbled, and there was none to help: NIV 12 So he subjected them to bitter labor; they stumbled, and there was no one to help. DBY 13 Then they cried unto Jehovah in their trouble, [and] he saved them out of their distresses; NIV 13 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. DBY 14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke their bands in sunder. NIV 14 He brought them out of darkness and the deepest gloom and broke away their chains. DBY 15 Let them give thanks unto Jehovah for his loving-kindness, and for his wondrous works to the children of men; NIV 15 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men, DBY 16 For he hath broken the gates of bronze, and cut asunder the bars of iron. NIV 16 for he breaks down gates of bronze and cuts through bars of iron. DBY 17 Fools, because of their way of transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted; NIV 17 Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities. DBY 18 Their soul abhorreth all manner of food, and they draw near unto the gates of death: NIV 18 They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death. DBY 19 Then they cry unto Jehovah in their trouble, [and] he saveth them out of their distresses; NIV 19 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. DBY 20 He sendeth his word, and healeth them, and delivereth them from their destructions. NIV 20 He sent forth his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave. DBY 21 Let them give thanks unto Jehovah for his loving-kindness, and for his wondrous works to the children of men, NIV 21 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men. DBY 22 And let them offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works in joyful song. NIV 22 Let them sacrifice thank offerings and tell of his works with songs of joy. DBY 23 They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters, NIV 23 Others went out on the sea in ships; they were merchants on the mighty waters. DBY 24 These see the works of Jehovah, and his wonders in the deep. NIV 24 They saw the works of the LORD, his wonderful deeds in the deep. DBY 25 For he speaketh, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof: NIV 25 For he spoke and stirred up a tempest that lifted high the waves. DBY 26 They mount up to the heavens, they go down to the depths; their soul is melted because of trouble; NIV 26 They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths; in their peril their courage melted away. DBY 27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and they are at their wits' end: NIV 27 They reeled and staggered like drunken men; they were at their wits' end. DBY 28 Then they cry unto Jehovah in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses; NIV 28 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress. DBY 29 He maketh the storm a calm, and the waves thereof are still: NIV 29 He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. DBY 30 And they rejoice because they are quiet; and he bringeth them unto their desired haven. NIV 30 They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven. DBY 31 Let them give thanks unto Jehovah for his loving-kindness, and for his wondrous works to the children of men; NIV 31 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men. DBY 32 Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the session of the elders. NIV 32 Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people and praise him in the council of the elders. DBY 33 He maketh rivers into a wilderness, and water-springs into dry ground; NIV 33 He turned rivers into a desert, flowing springs into thirsty ground, DBY 34 A fruitful land into a plain of salt, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein. NIV 34 and fruitful land into a salt waste, because of the wickedness of those who lived there. DBY 35 He maketh the wilderness into a pool of water, and the dry land into water-springs; NIV 35 He turned the desert into pools of water and the parched ground into flowing springs; DBY 36 And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, and they establish a city of habitation; NIV 36 there he brought the hungry to live, and they founded a city where they could settle. DBY 37 And sow fields, and plant vineyards, which yield fruits of increase; NIV 37 They sowed fields and planted vineyards that yielded a fruitful harvest; DBY 38 And he blesseth them, so that they are multiplied greatly; and he suffereth not their cattle to decrease. NIV 38 he blessed them, and their numbers greatly increased, and he did not let their herds diminish. DBY 39 And they are diminished and brought low, through oppression, adversity, and sorrow: NIV 39 Then their numbers decreased, and they were humbled by oppression, calamity and sorrow; DBY 40 He poureth contempt upon nobles, and causeth them to wander in a pathless waste; NIV 40 he who pours contempt on nobles made them wander in a trackless waste. DBY 41 But he secureth the needy one on high from affliction, and maketh [him] families like flocks. NIV 41 But he lifted the needy out of their affliction and increased their families like flocks. DBY 42 The upright shall see it, and rejoice; and all unrighteousness shall stop its mouth. NIV 42 The upright see and rejoice, but all the wicked shut their mouths. DBY 43 Whoso is wise, let him observe these things, and let them understand the loving-kindnesses of Jehovah. NIV 43 Whoever is wise, let him heed these things and consider the great love of the LORD.
