Psalm 107

GNT 1 "Give thanks to the Lord, because he is good; his love is eternal!" NIV 1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. GNT 2 Repeat these words in praise to the Lord, all you whom he has saved. He has rescued you from your enemies NIV 2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say this-- those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, GNT 3 and has brought you back from foreign countries, from east and west, from north and south. NIV 3 those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south. GNT 4 Some wandered in the trackless desert and could not find their way to a city to live in. NIV 4 Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle. GNT 5 They were hungry and thirsty and had given up all hope. NIV 5 They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away. GNT 6 Then in their trouble they called to the Lord, and he saved them from their distress. NIV 6 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. GNT 7 He led them by a straight road to a city where they could live. NIV 7 He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle. GNT 8 They must thank the Lord for his constant love, for the wonderful things he did for them. NIV 8 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men, GNT 9 He satisfies those who are thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. NIV 9 for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. GNT 10 Some were living in gloom and darkness, prisoners suffering in chains, NIV 10 Some sat in darkness and the deepest gloom, prisoners suffering in iron chains, GNT 11 because they had rebelled against the commands of Almighty God and had rejected his instructions. NIV 11 for they had rebelled against the words of God and despised the counsel of the Most High. GNT 12 They were worn out from hard work; they would fall down, and no one would help. NIV 12 So he subjected them to bitter labor; they stumbled, and there was no one to help. GNT 13 Then in their trouble they called to the Lord, and he saved them from their distress. NIV 13 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. GNT 14 He brought them out of their gloom and darkness and broke their chains in pieces. NIV 14 He brought them out of darkness and the deepest gloom and broke away their chains. GNT 15 They must thank the Lord for his constant love, for the wonderful things he did for them. NIV 15 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men, GNT 16 He breaks down doors of bronze and smashes iron bars. NIV 16 for he breaks down gates of bronze and cuts through bars of iron. GNT 17 Some were fools, suffering because of their sins and because of their evil; NIV 17 Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities. GNT 18 they couldn't stand the sight of food and were close to death. NIV 18 They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death. GNT 19 Then in their trouble they called to the Lord, and he saved them from their distress. NIV 19 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. GNT 20 He healed them with his command and saved them from the grave. NIV 20 He sent forth his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave. GNT 21 They must thank the Lord for his constant love, for the wonderful things he did for them. NIV 21 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men. GNT 22 They must thank him with sacrifices, and with songs of joy must tell all that he has done. NIV 22 Let them sacrifice thank offerings and tell of his works with songs of joy. GNT 23 Some sailed over the ocean in ships, earning their living on the seas. NIV 23 Others went out on the sea in ships; they were merchants on the mighty waters. GNT 24 They saw what the Lord can do, his wonderful acts on the seas. NIV 24 They saw the works of the LORD, his wonderful deeds in the deep. GNT 25 He commanded, and a mighty wind began to blow and stirred up the waves. NIV 25 For he spoke and stirred up a tempest that lifted high the waves. GNT 26 The ships were lifted high in the air and plunged down into the depths. In such danger the sailors lost their courage; NIV 26 They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths; in their peril their courage melted away. GNT 27 they stumbled and staggered like drunks - all their skill was useless. NIV 27 They reeled and staggered like drunken men; they were at their wits' end. GNT 28 Then in their trouble they called to the Lord, and he saved them from their distress. NIV 28 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress. GNT 29 He calmed the raging storm, and the waves became quiet. NIV 29 He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. GNT 30 They were glad because of the calm, and he brought them safe to the port they wanted. NIV 30 They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven. GNT 31 They must thank the Lord for his constant love, for the wonderful things he did for them. NIV 31 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men. GNT 32 They must proclaim his greatness in the assembly of the people and praise him before the council of the leaders. NIV 32 Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people and praise him in the council of the elders. GNT 33 The Lord made rivers dry up completely and stopped springs from flowing. NIV 33 He turned rivers into a desert, flowing springs into thirsty ground, GNT 34 He made rich soil become a salty wasteland because of the wickedness of those who lived there. NIV 34 and fruitful land into a salt waste, because of the wickedness of those who lived there. GNT 35 He changed deserts into pools of water and dry land into flowing springs. NIV 35 He turned the desert into pools of water and the parched ground into flowing springs; GNT 36 He let hungry people settle there, and they built a city to live in. NIV 36 there he brought the hungry to live, and they founded a city where they could settle. GNT 37 They sowed the fields and planted grapevines and reaped an abundant harvest. NIV 37 They sowed fields and planted vineyards that yielded a fruitful harvest; GNT 38 He blessed his people, and they had many children; he kept their herds of cattle from decreasing. NIV 38 he blessed them, and their numbers greatly increased, and he did not let their herds diminish. GNT 39 When God's people were defeated and humiliated by cruel oppression and suffering, NIV 39 Then their numbers decreased, and they were humbled by oppression, calamity and sorrow; GNT 40 he showed contempt for their oppressors and made them wander in trackless deserts. NIV 40 he who pours contempt on nobles made them wander in a trackless waste. GNT 41 But he rescued the needy from their misery and made their families increase like flocks. NIV 41 But he lifted the needy out of their affliction and increased their families like flocks. GNT 42 The righteous see this and are glad, but all the wicked are put to silence. NIV 42 The upright see and rejoice, but all the wicked shut their mouths. GNT 43 May those who are wise think about these things; may they consider the Lord's constant love. NIV 43 Whoever is wise, let him heed these things and consider the great love of the LORD.
