CJB 1 (Alef) How happy are those whose way of life is blameless, who live by the Torah of ADONAI! NIV 1 Blessed are they whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the LORD. CJB 2 How happy are those who observe his instruction, who seek him wholeheartedly! NIV 2 Blessed are they who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart. CJB 3 They do nothing wrong but live by his ways. NIV 3 They do nothing wrong; they walk in his ways. CJB 4 You laid down your precepts for us to observe with care. NIV 4 You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed. CJB 5 May my ways be steady in observing your laws. NIV 5 Oh, that my ways were steadfast in obeying your decrees! CJB 6 Then I will not be put to shame, since I will have fixed my sight on all your mitzvot. NIV 6 Then I would not be put to shame when I consider all your commands. CJB 7 I thank you with a sincere heart as I learn your righteous rulings. NIV 7 I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws. CJB 8 I will observe your laws; don't completely abandon me! NIV 8 I will obey your decrees; do not utterly forsake me. CJB 9 (Bet) How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. NIV 9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. CJB 10 I seek you with all my heart; don't let me stray from your mitzvot. NIV 10 I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. CJB 11 I treasure your word in my heart, so that I won't sin against you. NIV 11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. CJB 12 Blessed are you, ADONAI! Teach me your laws. NIV 12 Praise be to you, O LORD; teach me your decrees. CJB 13 I proclaim with my mouth all the rulings you have spoken. NIV 13 With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth. CJB 14 I rejoice in the way of your instruction more than in any kind of wealth. NIV 14 I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. CJB 15 I will meditate on your precepts and keep my eyes on your ways. NIV 15 I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. CJB 16 I will find my delight in your regulations. I will not forget your word. NIV 16 I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word. CJB 17 (Gimel) Deal generously with your servant; then I will live and observe your word. NIV 17 Do good to your servant, and I will live; I will obey your word. CJB 18 Open my eyes, so that I will see wonders from your Torah. NIV 18 Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law. CJB 19 Though I'm just a wanderer on the earth, don't hide your mitzvot from me. NIV 19 I am a stranger on earth; do not hide your commands from me. CJB 20 I am continually consumed with longing for your rulings. NIV 20 My soul is consumed with longing for your laws at all times. CJB 21 You rebuke the proud, the cursed, who stray from your mitzvot. NIV 21 You rebuke the arrogant, who are cursed and who stray from your commands. CJB 22 Remove scorn and contempt from me, because I observe your instruction. NIV 22 Remove from me scorn and contempt, for I keep your statutes. CJB 23 Even when princes sit and plot against me, your servant meditates on your laws. NIV 23 Though rulers sit together and slander me, your servant will meditate on your decrees. CJB 24 Also your instructions are my delight; they are my counselors. NIV 24 Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors. CJB 25 (Dalet) I lie prostrate in the dust; revive me, in keeping with your word. NIV 25 I am laid low in the dust; preserve my life according to your word. CJB 26 I told you of my ways, and you answered me; teach me your laws. NIV 26 I recounted my ways and you answered me; teach me your decrees. CJB 27 Make me understand the way of your precepts, and I will meditate on your wonders. NIV 27 Let me understand the teaching of your precepts; then I will meditate on your wonders. CJB 28 I am melting away from anxiety and grief; renew my strength, in keeping with your word. NIV 28 My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word. CJB 29 Keep deceitful ways far from me, and favor me with your Torah. NIV 29 Keep me from deceitful ways; be gracious to me through your law. CJB 30 I choose the way of trust; I set your rulings [before me]. NIV 30 I have chosen the way of truth; I have set my heart on your laws. CJB 31 I cling to your instruction; ADONAI, don't let me be put to shame! NIV 31 I hold fast to your statutes, O LORD; do not let me be put to shame. CJB 32 I will run the way of your mitzvot, for you have broadened my understanding. NIV 32 I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free. CJB 33 (Heh) Teach me, ADONAI, the way of your laws; keeping them will be its own reward for me. NIV 33 Teach me, O LORD, to follow your decrees; then I will keep them to the end. CJB 34 Give me understanding; then I will keep your Torah; I will observe it with all my heart. NIV 34 Give me understanding, and I will keep your law and obey it with all my heart. CJB 35 Guide me on the path of your mitzvot, for I take pleasure in it. NIV 35 Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight. CJB 36 Bend my heart toward your instructions and not toward selfish gain. NIV 36 Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain. CJB 37 Turn my eyes away from worthless things; with your ways, give me life. NIV 37 Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word. CJB 38 Fulfill your promise, which you made to your servant, which you made to those who fear you. NIV 38 Fulfill your promise to your servant, so that you may be feared. CJB 39 Avert the disgrace which I dread, for your rulings are good. NIV 39 Take away the disgrace I dread, for your laws are good. CJB 40 See how I long for your precepts; in your righteousness, give me life! NIV 40 How I long for your precepts! Preserve my life in your righteousness. CJB 41 May your grace come to me, ADONAI, your salvation, as you promised; NIV 41 May your unfailing love come to me, O LORD, your salvation according to your promise; CJB 42 then I will have an answer for those who taunt me; for I trust in your word. NIV 42 then I will answer the one who taunts me, for I trust in your word. CJB 43 Don't take away completely my power to speak the truth; for I put my hope in your rulings; NIV 43 Do not snatch the word of truth from my mouth, for I have put my hope in your laws. CJB 44 and I will keep your Torah always, forever and ever. NIV 44 I will always obey your law, for ever and ever. CJB 45 I will go wherever I like, for I have sought your precepts. NIV 45 I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts. CJB 46 I will speak of your instructions even to kings without being ashamed. NIV 46 I will speak of your statutes before kings and will not be put to shame, CJB 47 I will delight myself in your mitzvot, which I have loved. NIV 47 for I delight in your commands because I love them. CJB 48 I will lift my hands to your mitzvot, which I love; and I will meditate on your laws. NIV 48 I lift up my hands to your commands, which I love, and I meditate on your decrees. CJB 49 (Zayin) Remember your promise to your servant, through which you have given me hope. NIV 49 Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope. CJB 50 In my distress my comfort is this: that your promise gives me life. NIV 50 My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life. CJB 51 Though the arrogant scorn me completely, I have not turned away from your Torah. NIV 51 The arrogant mock me without restraint, but I do not turn from your law. CJB 52 ADONAI, I keep in mind your age-old rulings; in them I take comfort. NIV 52 I remember your ancient laws, O LORD, and I find comfort in them. CJB 53 Fury seizes me when I think of the wicked, because they abandon your Torah. NIV 53 Indignation grips me because of the wicked, who have forsaken your law. CJB 54 Your laws have become my songs wherever I make my home. NIV 54 Your decrees are the theme of my song wherever I lodge. CJB 55 I remember your name, ADONAI, at night; and I observe your Torah. NIV 55 In the night I remember your name, O LORD, and I will keep your law. CJB 56 This [comfort] has come to me, because I observe your precepts. NIV 56 This has been my practice: I obey your precepts. CJB 57 (Het) ADONAI, I say that my task is to observe your words. NIV 57 You are my portion, O LORD; I have promised to obey your words. CJB 58 I beg your favor with my whole heart; show pity to me, in keeping with your promise. NIV 58 I have sought your face with all my heart; be gracious to me according to your promise. CJB 59 I thought about my ways and turned my feet toward your instruction. NIV 59 I have considered my ways and have turned my steps to your statutes. CJB 60 I hurry, I don't delay, to observe your mitzvot. NIV 60 I will hasten and not delay to obey your commands. CJB 61 Even when the cords of the wicked close around me, I don't forget your Torah. NIV 61 Though the wicked bind me with ropes, I will not forget your law. CJB 62 At midnight I rise to give you thanks because of your righteous rulings. NIV 62 At midnight I rise to give you thanks for your righteous laws. CJB 63 I am a friend of all who fear you, of those who observe your precepts. NIV 63 I am a friend to all who fear you, to all who follow your precepts. CJB 64 The earth, ADONAI, is full of your grace; teach me your laws. NIV 64 The earth is filled with your love, O LORD; teach me your decrees. CJB 65 (Tet) You have treated your servant well, ADONAI, in keeping with your word. NIV 65 Do good to your servant according to your word, O LORD. CJB 66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge, because I trust in your mitzvot. NIV 66 Teach me knowledge and good judgment, for I believe in your commands. CJB 67 Before I was humbled, I used to go astray; but now I observe your word. NIV 67 Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey your word. CJB 68 You are good, and you do good; teach me your laws. NIV 68 You are good, and what you do is good; teach me your decrees. CJB 69 The arrogant are slandering me, but I will wholeheartedly keep your precepts. NIV 69 Though the arrogant have smeared me with lies, I keep your precepts with all my heart. CJB 70 Their hearts are as thick as fat, but I take delight in your Torah. NIV 70 Their hearts are callous and unfeeling, but I delight in your law. CJB 71 It is for my good that I have been humbled; it was so that I would learn your laws. NIV 71 It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees. CJB 72 The Torah you have spoken means more to me than a fortune in gold and silver. NIV 72 The law from your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold. CJB 73 (Yud) Your hands made and formed me; give me understanding, so I can learn your mitzvot. NIV 73 Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands. CJB 74 Those who fear you rejoice at the sight of me, because I put my hope in your word. NIV 74 May those who fear you rejoice when they see me, for I have put my hope in your word. CJB 75 I know, ADONAI, that your rulings are righteous, that even when you humble me you are faithful. NIV 75 I know, O LORD, that your laws are righteous, and in faithfulness you have afflicted me. CJB 76 Let your grace comfort me, in keeping with your promise to your servant. NIV 76 May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant. CJB 77 Show me pity, and I will live, for your Torah is my delight. NIV 77 Let your compassion come to me that I may live, for your law is my delight. CJB 78 Let the proud be ashamed, because they wrong me with lies; as for me, I will meditate on your precepts. NIV 78 May the arrogant be put to shame for wronging me without cause; but I will meditate on your precepts. CJB 79 Let those who fear you turn to me, along with those who know your instruction. NIV 79 May those who fear you turn to me, those who understand your statutes. CJB 80 Let my heart be pure in your laws, so that I won't be put to shame. NIV 80 May my heart be blameless toward your decrees, that I may not be put to shame. CJB 81 (Kaf) I am dying to know your salvation; my hope is in your word. NIV 81 My soul faints with longing for your salvation, but I have put my hope in your word. CJB 82 My eyes fail from watching for your promise; I ask, "When will you comfort me?" NIV 82 My eyes fail, looking for your promise; I say, "When will you comfort me?" CJB 83 For I have shriveled like a wineskin in a smoky room; still, I don't forget your laws. NIV 83 Though I am like a wineskin in the smoke, I do not forget your decrees. CJB 84 How long can your servant stay alive? When will you bring judgment on my persecutors? NIV 84 How long must your servant wait? When will you punish my persecutors? CJB 85 The arrogant have dug pits for me to fall in; this is not in keeping with your Torah! NIV 85 The arrogant dig pitfalls for me, contrary to your law. CJB 86 All your mitzvot [show your] faithfulness; they are hounding me with lies; help me! NIV 86 All your commands are trustworthy; help me, for men persecute me without cause. CJB 87 They have nearly ended my life on earth, but I have not abandoned your precepts. NIV 87 They almost wiped me from the earth, but I have not forsaken your precepts. CJB 88 In keeping with your grace, revive me; and I will observe your spoken instructions. NIV 88 Preserve my life according to your love, and I will obey the statutes of your mouth. CJB 89 (Lamed) Your word continues forever, ADONAI, firmly fixed in heaven; NIV 89 Your word, O LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. CJB 90 your faithfulness through all generations; you established the earth, and it stands. NIV 90 Your faithfulness continues through all generations; you established the earth, and it endures. CJB 91 Yes, it stands today, in keeping with your rulings; for all things are your servants. NIV 91 Your laws endure to this day, for all things serve you. CJB 92 If your Torah had not been my delight, I would have perished in my distress. NIV 92 If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. NIV 96 To all perfection I see a limit; but your commands are boundless. CJB 97 How I love your Torah! I meditate on it all day. NIV 97 Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. CJB 98 I am wiser than my foes, because your mitzvot are mine forever. NIV 98 Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever with me. CJB 99 I have more understanding than all my teachers, because I meditate on your instruction. NIV 99 I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes. CJB 100 I understand more than my elders, because I keep your precepts. NIV 100 I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts. CJB 101 I keep my feet from every evil way, in order to observe your word. NIV 101 I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word. CJB 102 I don't turn away from your rulings, because you have instructed me. NIV 102 I have not departed from your laws, for you yourself have taught me. CJB 103 How sweet to my tongue is your promise, truly sweeter than honey in my mouth! NIV 103 How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! CJB 104 From your precepts I gain understanding; this is why I hate every false way. NIV 104 I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path. CJB 105 (Nun) Your word is a lamp for my foot and light on my path. NIV 105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. CJB 106 I have sworn an oath and confirmed it, that I will observe your righteous rulings. NIV 106 I have taken an oath and confirmed it, that I will follow your righteous laws. CJB 107 I am very much distressed; ADONAI, give me life, in keeping with your word. NIV 107 I have suffered much; preserve my life, O LORD, according to your word. CJB 108 Please accept my mouth's voluntary offerings, ADONAI; and teach me your rulings. NIV 108 Accept, O LORD, the willing praise of my mouth, and teach me your laws. CJB 109 I am continually taking my life in my hands, yet I haven't forgotten your Torah. NIV 109 Though I constantly take my life in my hands, I will not forget your law. CJB 110 The wicked have set a trap for me, yet I haven't strayed from your precepts. NIV 110 The wicked have set a snare for me, but I have not strayed from your precepts. CJB 111 I take your instruction as a permanent heritage, because it is the joy of my heart. NIV 111 Your statutes are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart. CJB 112 I have resolved to obey your laws forever, at every step. NIV 112 My heart is set on keeping your decrees to the very end. CJB 113 (Samekh) I hate doubleminded people, but I love your Torah. NIV 113 I hate double-minded men, but I love your law. CJB 114 You are my hiding-place and shield; I put my hope in your word. NIV 114 You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word. CJB 115 Leave me alone, you evildoers, so that I can keep my God's mitzvot. NIV 115 Away from me, you evildoers, that I may keep the commands of my God! CJB 116 Uphold me, as you promised; and I will live; don't disappoint me in my hope. NIV 119 All the wicked of the earth you discard like dross; therefore I love your statutes. CJB 120 My body trembles for fear of you; your rulings make me afraid. NIV 120 My flesh trembles in fear of you; I stand in awe of your laws. CJB 121 ('Ayin) I have done what is just and right; don't abandon me to my oppressors. NIV 121 I have done what is righteous and just; do not leave me to my oppressors. CJB 122 Guarantee your servant's well-being; don't let the arrogant oppress me. NIV 122 Ensure your servant's well-being; let not the arrogant oppress me. CJB 123 My eyes fail from watching for your salvation and for [the fulfillment of] your righteous promise. NIV 123 My eyes fail, looking for your salvation, looking for your righteous promise. CJB 124 Deal with your servant in accordance with your grace, and teach me your laws. NIV 124 Deal with your servant according to your love and teach me your decrees. CJB 125 I am your servant; give me understanding, so that I can know your instruction. NIV 125 I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes. CJB 126 The time has come for ADONAI to act, because they are breaking your Torah. NIV 126 It is time for you to act, O LORD; your law is being broken. CJB 127 Therefore I love your mitzvot more than gold, more than fine gold. NIV 129 Your statutes are wonderful; therefore I obey them. CJB 130 Your words are a doorway that lets in light, giving understanding to the thoughtless. NIV 130 The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. CJB 131 My mouth is wide open, as I pant with longing for your mitzvot. NIV 131 I open my mouth and pant, longing for your commands. CJB 132 Turn to me, and show me your favor; in keeping with [your] judgment for those who love your name. NIV 132 Turn to me and have mercy on me, as you always do to those who love your name. CJB 133 Guide my footsteps by your word; don't let any kind of sin rule me. NIV 133 Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me. CJB 134 Redeem me from human oppression, and I will observe your precepts. NIV 134 Redeem me from the oppression of men, that I may obey your precepts. CJB 135 Make your face shine on your servant, and teach me your laws. NIV 135 Make your face shine upon your servant and teach me your decrees. CJB 136 Rivers of tears flow down from my eyes, because they don't observe your Torah. NIV 136 Streams of tears flow from my eyes, for your law is not obeyed. CJB 137 (Tzadeh) You are righteous, ADONAI; and your rulings are upright. NIV 137 Righteous are you, O LORD, and your laws are right. CJB 138 You have commanded your instructions in righteousness and great faithfulness. NIV 138 The statutes you have laid down are righteous; they are fully trustworthy. CJB 139 My zeal is destroying me, because my foes have forgotten your words. NIV 139 My zeal wears me out, for my enemies ignore your words. CJB 140 Your word is refined to complete purity, and your servant loves it. NIV 140 Your promises have been thoroughly tested, and your servant loves them. CJB 141 I may be small and despised, but I do not forget your precepts. NIV 141 Though I am lowly and despised, I do not forget your precepts. CJB 142 Your righteousness is eternal righteousness, and your Torah is truth. NIV 142 Your righteousness is everlasting and your law is true. CJB 143 Trouble and distress have overtaken me, but your mitzvot are my delight. NIV 143 Trouble and distress have come upon me, but your commands are my delight. CJB 144 Your instruction is righteous forever; give me understanding, and I will live. CJB 150 The pursuers of carnality are getting close; they are distancing themselves from your Torah. NIV 150 Those who devise wicked schemes are near, but they are far from your law. CJB 151 You are close by, ADONAI; and all your mitzvot are truth. NIV 151 Yet you are near, O LORD, and all your commands are true. CJB 152 Long ago I learned from your instruction that you established it forever. NIV 152 Long ago I learned from your statutes that you established them to last forever. CJB 153 (Resh) Look at my distress, and rescue me, for I do not forget your Torah. NIV 153 Look upon my suffering and deliver me, for I have not forgotten your law. CJB 154 Plead my cause, and redeem me; in keeping with your promise, revive me. NIV 154 Defend my cause and redeem me; preserve my life according to your promise. CJB 155 Salvation is far away from the wicked, because they don't seek your laws. NIV 155 Salvation is far from the wicked, for they do not seek out your decrees. CJB 156 Great is your compassion, ADONAI; in keeping with your rulings, revive me. NIV 156 Your compassion is great, O LORD; preserve my life according to your laws. CJB 157 Although my persecutors and foes are many, I have not turned away from your instruction. NIV 157 Many are the foes who persecute me, but I have not turned from your statutes. CJB 158 I look at traitors with disgust, because they don't keep your word. NIV 158 I look on the faithless with loathing, for they do not obey your word. CJB 159 See how I love your precepts, ADONAI; in keeping with your grace, revive me. NIV 159 See how I love your precepts; preserve my life, O LORD, according to your love. CJB 160 The main thing about your word is that it's true; and all your just rulings last forever. NIV 160 All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal. CJB 161 (Shin) Princes persecute me for no reason, but my heart stands in awe of your words. NIV 161 Rulers persecute me without cause, but my heart trembles at your word. CJB 162 I take joy in your promise, like someone who finds much booty. NIV 162 I rejoice in your promise like one who finds great spoil. CJB 163 I hate falsehood, I detest it; but I love your Torah. NIV 163 I hate and abhor falsehood but I love your law. CJB 164 I praise you seven times a day because of your righteous rulings. NIV 164 Seven times a day I praise you for your righteous laws. CJB 165 Those who love your Torah have great peace; nothing makes them stumble. NIV 165 Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble. CJB 166 I hope for your deliverance, ADONAI; I obey your mitzvot. NIV 166 I wait for your salvation, O LORD, and I follow your commands. CJB 167 My soul observes your instruction, and I love it so much! NIV 167 I obey your statutes, for I love them greatly. CJB 171 Let my lips speak praise, because you teach me your laws. NIV 171 May my lips overflow with praise, for you teach me your decrees. CJB 172 Let my tongue sing of your promise, because all your mitzvot are righteous. NIV 172 May my tongue sing of your word, for all your commands are righteous. CJB 173 Let your hand be ready to help me, because I choose your precepts. NIV 173 May your hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen your precepts. CJB 174 I long for your deliverance, ADONAI; and your Torah is my delight. NIV 174 I long for your salvation, O LORD, and your law is my delight. CJB 175 Let me live, and I will praise you; let your rulings help me. NIV 175 Let me live that I may praise you, and may your laws sustain me.
