Psalm 127

ASV 1 Except Jehovah build the house, They labor in vain that build it: Except Jehovah keep the city, The watchman waketh but in vain. NIV 1 Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain. ASV 2 It is vain for you to rise up early, To take rest late, To eat the bread of toil; [For] so he giveth unto his beloved sleep. NIV 2 In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat-- for he grants sleep to those he loves. ASV 3 Lo, children are a heritage of Jehovah; [And] the fruit of the womb is [his] reward. NIV 3 Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him. ASV 4 As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, So are the children of youth. NIV 4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth. ASV 5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: They shall not be put to shame, When they speak with their enemies in the gate. NIV 5 Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate.
