Psalm 12:1-7

NLT 1 For the choir director: A psalm of David, to be accompanied by an eight-stringed instrument. Help, O LORD, for the godly are fast disappearing! The faithful have vanished from the earth! NIV 1 Help, LORD, for the godly are no more; the faithful have vanished from among men. NLT 2 Neighbors lie to each other, speaking with flattering lips and insincere hearts. NIV 2 Everyone lies to his neighbor; their flattering lips speak with deception. NLT 3 May the LORD bring their flattery to an end and silence their proud tongues. NIV 3 May the LORD cut off all flattering lips and every boastful tongue NLT 4 They say, "We will lie to our hearts' content. Our lips are our own -- who can stop us?" NIV 4 that says, "We will triumph with our tongues; we own our lips--who is our master?" NLT 5 The LORD replies, "I have seen violence done to the helpless, and I have heard the groans of the poor. Now I will rise up to rescue them, as they have longed for me to do." NIV 5 "Because of the oppression of the weak and the groaning of the needy, I will now arise," says the LORD. "I will protect them from those who malign them." NLT 6 The LORD's promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over. NIV 6 And the words of the LORD are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace of clay, purified seven times. NLT 7 Therefore, LORD, we know you will protect the oppressed, preserving them forever from this lying generation, NIV 7 O LORD, you will keep us safe and protect us from such people forever.
