Psalm 137

CSB 1 By the rivers of Babylon- there we sat down and wept when we remembered Zion. NIV 1 By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept when we remembered Zion. CSB 2 There we hung up our lyres on the poplar trees, NIV 2 There on the poplars we hung our harps, CSB 3 for our captors there asked us for songs, and our tormentors, for rejoicing: "Sing us one of the songs of Zion." NIV 3 for there our captors asked us for songs, our tormentors demanded songs of joy; they said, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion!" CSB 4 How can we sing the Lord's song on foreign soil? NIV 4 How can we sing the songs of the LORD while in a foreign land? CSB 5 If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand forget [its skill]. NIV 5 If I forget you, O Jerusalem, may my right hand forget [its skill]. CSB 6 May my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not exalt Jerusalem as my greatest joy! NIV 6 May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not consider Jerusalem my highest joy. CSB 7 Remember, Lord, [what] the Edomites said that day at Jerusalem: "Destroy it! Destroy it down to its foundations!" NIV 7 Remember, O LORD, what the Edomites did on the day Jerusalem fell. "Tear it down," they cried, "tear it down to its foundations!" CSB 8 Daughter Babylon, doomed to destruction, happy is the one who pays you back what you have done to us. NIV 8 O Daughter of Babylon, doomed to destruction, happy is he who repays you for what you have done to us-- CSB 9 Happy is he who takes your little ones and dashes them against the rocks. NIV 9 he who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks.
