Psalm 137

YLT 1 By rivers of Babylon -- There we did sit, Yea, we wept when we remembered Zion. NIV 1 By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept when we remembered Zion. YLT 2 On willows in its midst we hung our harps. NIV 2 There on the poplars we hung our harps, YLT 3 For there our captors asked us the words of a song, And our spoilers -- joy: `Sing ye to us of a song of Zion.' NIV 3 for there our captors asked us for songs, our tormentors demanded songs of joy; they said, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion!" YLT 4 How do we sing the song of Jehovah, On the land of a stranger? NIV 4 How can we sing the songs of the LORD while in a foreign land? YLT 5 If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, my right hand forgetteth! NIV 5 If I forget you, O Jerusalem, may my right hand forget [its skill]. YLT 6 My tongue doth cleave to my palate, If I do not remember thee, If I do not exalt Jerusalem above my chief joy. NIV 6 May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not consider Jerusalem my highest joy. YLT 7 Remember, Jehovah, for the sons of Edom, The day of Jerusalem, Those saying, `Rase, rase to its foundation!' NIV 7 Remember, O LORD, what the Edomites did on the day Jerusalem fell. "Tear it down," they cried, "tear it down to its foundations!" YLT 8 O daughter of Babylon, O destroyed one, O the happiness of him who repayeth to thee thy deed, That thou hast done to us. NIV 8 O Daughter of Babylon, doomed to destruction, happy is he who repays you for what you have done to us-- YLT 9 O the happiness of him who doth seize, And hath dashed thy sucklings on the rock! NIV 9 he who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks.
