Psalm 138

CJB 1 By David: I give you thanks with all my heart. Not to idols, but to you I sing praise. NIV 1 I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart; before the "gods" I will sing your praise. CJB 2 I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your grace and truth; for you have made your word [even] greater than the whole of your reputation. NIV 2 I will bow down toward your holy temple and will praise your name for your love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word. CJB 3 When I called, you answered me, you made me bold and strong. NIV 3 When I called, you answered me; you made me bold and stouthearted. CJB 4 All the kings of the earth will thank you, ADONAI, when they hear the words you have spoken. NIV 4 May all the kings of the earth praise you, O LORD, when they hear the words of your mouth. CJB 5 They will sing about ADONAI's ways, "Great is the glory of ADONAI!" NIV 5 May they sing of the ways of the LORD, for the glory of the LORD is great. CJB 6 For though ADONAI is high, he cares for the lowly; while the proud he perceives from afar. NIV 6 Though the LORD is on high, he looks upon the lowly, but the proud he knows from afar. CJB 7 You keep me alive when surrounded by danger; you put out your hand when my enemies rage; with your right hand you save me. NIV 7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life; you stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes, with your right hand you save me. CJB 8 ADONAI will fulfill his purpose for me. Your grace, ADONAI, continues forever. Don't abandon the work of your hands! NIV 8 The LORD will fulfill [his purpose] for me; your love, O LORD, endures forever-- do not abandon the works of your hands.
