Psalm 139

DBY 1 {To the chief Musician. A Psalm of David.} Jehovah, thou hast searched me, and known [me]. NIV 1 O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. DBY 2 *Thou* knowest my down-sitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off; NIV 2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. DBY 3 Thou searchest out my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways; NIV 3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. DBY 4 For there is not yet a word on my tongue, [but] lo, O Jehovah, thou knowest it altogether. NIV 4 Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD. DBY 5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thy hand upon me. NIV 5 You hem me in--behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me. DBY 6 O knowledge too wonderful for me! it is high, I cannot [attain] unto it. NIV 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. DBY 7 Whither shall I go from thy Spirit? and whither flee from thy presence? NIV 7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? DBY 8 If I ascend up into the heavens thou art there; or if I make my bed in Sheol, behold, thou [art there]; NIV 8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. DBY 9 [If] I take the wings of the dawn [and] dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, NIV 9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, DBY 10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. NIV 10 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. DBY 11 And if I say, Surely darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night; NIV 11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me," DBY 12 Even darkness hideth not from thee, and the night shineth as the day: the darkness is as the light. NIV 12 even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. DBY 13 For thou hast possessed my reins; thou didst cover me in my mother's womb. NIV 13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. DBY 14 I will praise thee, for I am fearfully, wonderfully made. Marvellous are thy works; and [that] my soul knoweth right well. NIV 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. DBY 15 My bones were not hidden from thee when I was made in secret, curiously wrought in the lower parts of the earth. NIV 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, DBY 16 Thine eyes did see my unformed substance, and in thy book all [my members] were written; [during many] days were they fashioned, when [as yet] there was none of them. NIV 16 your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. DBY 17 But how precious are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! NIV 17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! DBY 18 [If] I would count them, they are more in number than the sand. When I awake, I am still with thee. NIV 18 Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you. DBY 19 Oh that thou wouldest slay the wicked, O God! And ye men of blood, depart from me. NIV 19 If only you would slay the wicked, O God! Away from me, you bloodthirsty men! DBY 20 For they speak of thee wickedly, they take [thy name] in vain, thine enemies. NIV 20 They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name. DBY 21 Do not I hate them, O Jehovah, that hate thee? and do not I loathe them that rise up against thee? NIV 21 Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD, and abhor those who rise up against you? DBY 22 I hate them with perfect hatred; I account them mine enemies. NIV 22 I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies. DBY 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; prove me, and know my thoughts; NIV 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. DBY 24 And see if there be any grievous way in me; and lead me in the way everlasting. NIV 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
