HNV 1 <<For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David.>> LORD, you have searched me, And you know me. NIV 1 O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. HNV 2 You know my sitting down and my rising up. You perceive my thoughts from afar. NIV 2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. HNV 3 You search out my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways. NIV 3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. HNV 4 For there is not a word on my tongue, But, behold, LORD, you know it altogether. NIV 4 Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD. HNV 5 You tzitzit me in behind and before. You laid your hand on me. NIV 5 You hem me in--behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me. HNV 6 This knowledge is beyond me. It is lofty. I can't attain it. NIV 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. HNV 7 Where could I go from your Spirit? Or where could I flee from your presence? NIV 7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? HNV 8 If I ascend up into heaven, you are there. If I make my bed in She'ol, behold, you are there! NIV 8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. HNV 9 If I take the wings of the dawn, And settle in the uttermost parts of the sea; NIV 9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, HNV 10 Even there your hand will lead me, And your right hand will hold me. NIV 10 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. HNV 11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will overwhelm me; The light around me will be night;" NIV 11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me," HNV 12 Even the darkness doesn't hide from you, But the night shines as the day. The darkness is like light to you. NIV 12 even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. HNV 13 For you formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother's womb. NIV 13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. HNV 14 I will give thanks to you, For I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well. NIV 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. HNV 15 My frame wasn't hidden from you, When I was made in secret, Woven together in the depths of the eretz. NIV 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, HNV 16 Your eyes saw my body. In your book they were all written, The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there were none of them. NIV 16 your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. HNV 17 How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! NIV 17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! HNV 18 If I would count them, they are more in number than the sand. When I wake up, I am still with you. NIV 18 Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you. HNV 19 If only you, God, would kill the wicked. Get away from me, you bloodthirsty men! NIV 19 If only you would slay the wicked, O God! Away from me, you bloodthirsty men! HNV 20 For they speak against you wickedly. Your enemies take your name in vain. NIV 20 They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name. HNV 21 LORD, don't I hate those who hate you? Am I not grieved with those who rise up against you? NIV 21 Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD, and abhor those who rise up against you? HNV 22 I hate them with perfect hatred. They have become my enemies. NIV 22 I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies. HNV 23 Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. NIV 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. HNV 24 See if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way. NIV 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
