DBY 1 {A Prayer of David.} Hear the right, O Jehovah, attend unto my cry; give ear unto my prayer, which is not out of feigned lips. NIV 1 Hear, O LORD, my righteous plea; listen to my cry. Give ear to my prayer-- it does not rise from deceitful lips. DBY 2 Let my judgment come forth from thy presence, let thine eyes regard equity. NIV 2 May my vindication come from you; may your eyes see what is right. DBY 3 Thou hast proved my heart, thou hast visited me by night; thou hast tried me, thou hast found nothing: my thought goeth not beyond my word. NIV 3 Though you probe my heart and examine me at night, though you test me, you will find nothing; I have resolved that my mouth will not sin. DBY 4 Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept from the paths of the violent [man]. NIV 4 As for the deeds of men-- by the word of your lips I have kept myself from the ways of the violent. DBY 5 When thou holdest my goings in thy paths, my footsteps slip not. NIV 5 My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not slipped. DBY 6 I have called upon thee, for thou answerest me, O God. Incline thine ear unto me, hear my speech. NIV 6 I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer. DBY 7 Shew wondrously thy loving-kindnesses, O thou that savest by thy right hand them that trust [in thee] from those that rise up [against them]. NIV 7 Show the wonder of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from their foes. DBY 8 Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings, NIV 8 Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings DBY 9 From the wicked that destroy me, my deadly enemies, who compass me about. NIV 9 from the wicked who assail me, from my mortal enemies who surround me. DBY 10 They are enclosed in their own fat; with their mouth they speak proudly. NIV 10 They close up their callous hearts, and their mouths speak with arrogance. DBY 11 They have now encompassed us in our steps; their eyes have they set, bowing down to the earth. NIV 11 They have tracked me down, they now surround me, with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground. DBY 12 He is like a lion that is greedy of its prey, and as a young lion lurking in secret places. NIV 12 They are like a lion hungry for prey, like a great lion crouching in cover. DBY 13 Arise, Jehovah, anticipate him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, thy sword; NIV 13 Rise up, O LORD, confront them, bring them down; rescue me from the wicked by your sword. DBY 14 From men [who are] thy hand, O Jehovah, from men of this age: their portion is in [this] life, and their belly thou fillest with thy hid [treasure]; they have their fill of sons, and leave the rest of their [substance] to their children. NIV 14 O LORD, by your hand save me from such men, from men of this world whose reward is in this life. You still the hunger of those you cherish; their sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children. DBY 15 As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness. NIV 15 And I--in righteousness I will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.
