Psalm 18

TMB 1 ((To the chief musician: A Psalm of David the servant of the LORD, who spoke unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. And he said:>> I will love Thee, O LORD, my strength. NIV 1 I love you, O LORD, my strength. TMB 2 The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. NIV 2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. TMB 3 I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from mine enemies. NIV 3 I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies. TMB 4 The sorrows of death encompassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid. NIV 4 The cords of death entangled me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me. TMB 5 The sorrows of hell compassed me about; the snares of death lay before me. NIV 5 The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me. TMB 6 In my distress I called upon the LORD and cried unto my God; He heard my voice out of His temple, and my cry came before Him, even unto His ears. NIV 6 In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears. TMB 7 Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because He was wroth. NIV 7 The earth trembled and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains shook; they trembled because he was angry. TMB 8 There went up smoke out of His nostrils, and a devouring fire out of His mouth; coals were kindled by it. NIV 8 Smoke rose from his nostrils; consuming fire came from his mouth, burning coals blazed out of it. TMB 9 He bowed the heavens also and came down; and darkness was under His feet. NIV 9 He parted the heavens and came down; dark clouds were under his feet. TMB 10 And He rode upon a cherub and flew; yea, He flew upon the wings of the wind. NIV 10 He mounted the cherubim and flew; he soared on the wings of the wind. TMB 11 He made darkness His secret place; His pavilion round about Him was dark waters and thick clouds of the skies. NIV 11 He made darkness his covering, his canopy around him-- the dark rain clouds of the sky. TMB 12 At the brightness that was before Him, His thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire. NIV 12 Out of the brightness of his presence clouds advanced, with hailstones and bolts of lightning. TMB 13 The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest uttered His voice with hail stones and coals of fire. NIV 13 The LORD thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded. TMB 14 Yea, He sent out His arrows and scattered them; and He shot out lightnings and discomfited them. NIV 14 He shot his arrows and scattered [the enemies], great bolts of lightning and routed them. TMB 15 Then the channels of the waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were uncovered at Thy rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of Thy nostrils. NIV 15 The valleys of the sea were exposed and the foundations of the earth laid bare at your rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of breath from your nostrils. TMB 16 He sent from above, He took me; He drew me out of many waters. NIV 16 He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. TMB 17 He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated me, for they were too strong for me. NIV 17 He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me. TMB 18 They came against me in the day of my calamity; but the LORD was my stay. NIV 18 They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the LORD was my support. TMB 19 He brought me forth also into a large place; He delivered me, because He delighted in me. NIV 19 He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me. TMB 20 The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath He recompensed me. NIV 20 The LORD has dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me. TMB 21 For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God. NIV 21 For I have kept the ways of the LORD; I have not done evil by turning from my God. TMB 22 For all His judgments were before me, and I did not put away His statutes from me. NIV 22 All his laws are before me; I have not turned away from his decrees. TMB 23 I was also upright before Him, and I kept myself from mine iniquity. NIV 23 I have been blameless before him and have kept myself from sin. TMB 24 Therefore hath the LORD recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in His eyes. NIV 24 The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight. TMB 25 With the merciful Thou wilt show Thyself merciful; with an upright man Thou wilt show Thyself upright; NIV 25 To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless, TMB 26 with the pure Thou wilt show Thyself pure; and with the froward Thou wilt show Thyself froward. NIV 26 to the pure you show yourself pure, but to the crooked you show yourself shrewd. TMB 27 For Thou wilt save the afflicted people, but wilt bring down haughty looks. NIV 27 You save the humble but bring low those whose eyes are haughty. TMB 28 For Thou wilt light my candle; the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness. NIV 28 You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. TMB 29 For by Thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall. NIV 29 With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall. TMB 30 As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is proved; He is a buckler to all those that trust in Him. NIV 30 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him. TMB 31 For who is God, except the LORD? Or who is a rock, except our God? NIV 31 For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God? TMB 32 It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect. NIV 32 It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. TMB 33 He maketh my feet like hinds' feet, and setteth me upon my high places. NIV 33 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights. TMB 34 He teacheth my hands to war, so that the bow of steel is broken by mine arms. NIV 34 He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. TMB 35 Thou hast also given me the shield of Thy salvation; Thy right hand hath held me up, and Thy gentleness hath made me great. NIV 35 You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great. TMB 36 Thou hast enlarged my path under me, that my feet did not slip. NIV 36 You broaden the path beneath me, so that my ankles do not turn. TMB 37 I have pursued mine enemies and overtaken them; neither did I turn back until they were consumed. NIV 37 I pursued my enemies and overtook them; I did not turn back till they were destroyed. TMB 38 I have wounded them, that they were not able to rise; they have fallen under my feet. NIV 38 I crushed them so that they could not rise; they fell beneath my feet. TMB 39 For Thou hast girded me with strength for the battle; Thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me. NIV 39 You armed me with strength for battle; you made my adversaries bow at my feet. TMB 40 Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me. NIV 40 You made my enemies turn their backs in flight, and I destroyed my foes. TMB 41 They cried, but there was none to save them, even unto the LORD, but He answered them not. NIV 41 They cried for help, but there was no one to save them-- to the LORD, but he did not answer. TMB 42 Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind; I did cast them out as the dirt in the streets. NIV 42 I beat them as fine as dust borne on the wind; I poured them out like mud in the streets. TMB 43 Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; and Thou hast made me the head of the heathen; a people whom I have not known shall serve me. NIV 43 You have delivered me from the attacks of the people; you have made me the head of nations; people I did not know are subject to me. TMB 44 As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me; the strangers shall submit themselves unto me. NIV 44 As soon as they hear me, they obey me; foreigners cringe before me. TMB 45 The strangers shall fade away, and be afraid out of their close places. NIV 45 They all lose heart; they come trembling from their strongholds. TMB 46 The LORD liveth, and blessed be my Rock! And let the God of my salvation be exalted! NIV 46 The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior! TMB 47 It is God that avengeth me, and subdueth the people under me; NIV 47 He is the God who avenges me, who subdues nations under me, TMB 48 He delivereth me from mine enemies. Yea, Thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me; Thou hast delivered me from violent men. NIV 48 who saves me from my enemies. You exalted me above my foes; from violent men you rescued me. TMB 49 Therefore will I give thanks unto Thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises unto Thy name. NIV 49 Therefore I will praise you among the nations, O LORD; I will sing praises to your name. TMB 50 Great deliverance giveth He to His king and showeth mercy to His anointed, to David and to his seed for evermore. NIV 50 He gives his king great victories; he shows unfailing kindness to his anointed, to David and his descendants forever.
