Psalm 22

DBY 1 {To the chief Musician. Upon Aijeleth-Shahar. A Psalm of David.} My God, my ·God, why hast thou forsaken me? [why art thou] far from my salvation, from the words of my groaning? NIV 1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning? DBY 2 My God, I cry by day, and thou answerest not; and by night, and there is no rest for me: NIV 2 O my God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, and am not silent. DBY 3 And thou art holy, thou that dwellest amid the praises of Israel. NIV 3 Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the praise of Israel. DBY 4 Our fathers confided in thee: they confided, and thou didst deliver them. NIV 4 In you our fathers put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them. DBY 5 They cried unto thee, and were delivered; they confided in thee, and were not confounded. NIV 5 They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed. DBY 6 But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and the despised of the people. NIV 6 But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by men and despised by the people. DBY 7 All they that see me laugh me to scorn; they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, [saying:] NIV 7 All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads: DBY 8 Commit it to Jehovah -- let him rescue him; let him deliver him, because he delighteth in him! NIV 8 "He trusts in the LORD; let the LORD rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him." DBY 9 But thou art he that took me out of the womb; thou didst make me trust, upon my mother's breasts. NIV 9 Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you even at my mother's breast. DBY 10 I was cast upon thee from the womb; thou art my God from my mother's belly. NIV 10 From birth I was cast upon you; from my mother's womb you have been my God. DBY 11 Be not far from me, for trouble is near; for there is none to help. NIV 11 Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help. DBY 12 Many bulls have encompassed me; Bashan's strong ones have beset me round. NIV 12 Many bulls surround me; strong bulls of Bashan encircle me. DBY 13 They gape upon me with their mouth, [as] a ravening and a roaring lion. NIV 13 Roaring lions tearing their prey open their mouths wide against me. DBY 14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is become like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels. NIV 14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted away within me. DBY 15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue cleaveth to my palate; and thou hast laid me in the dust of death. NIV 15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death. DBY 16 For dogs have encompassed me; an assembly of evil-doers have surrounded me: they pierced my hands and my feet. NIV 16 Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet. DBY 17 I may count all my bones. DBY 22 I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee. NIV 22 I will declare your name to my brothers; in the congregation I will praise you.
