Psalm 22

NCV 1 My God, my God, why have you rejected me? You seem far from saving me, far from the words of my groaning. NIV 1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning? NCV 2 My God, I call to you during the day, but you do not answer. I call at night; I am not silent. NIV 2 O my God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, and am not silent. NCV 3 You sit as the Holy One. The praises of Israel are your throne. NIV 3 Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the praise of Israel. NCV 4 Our ancestors trusted you; they trusted, and you saved them. NIV 4 In you our fathers put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them. NCV 5 They called to you for help and were rescued. They trusted you and were not disappointed. NIV 5 They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed. NCV 6 But I am like a worm instead of a man. People make fun of me and hate me. NIV 6 But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by men and despised by the people. NCV 7 Those who look at me laugh. They stick out their tongues and shake their heads. NIV 7 All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads: NCV 8 They say, "Turn to the Lord for help. Maybe he will save you. If he likes you, maybe he will rescue you." NIV 8 "He trusts in the LORD; let the LORD rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him." NCV 9 You had my mother give birth to me. You made me trust you while I was just a baby. NIV 9 Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you even at my mother's breast. NCV 10 I have leaned on you since the day I was born; you have been my God since my mother gave me birth. NIV 10 From birth I was cast upon you; from my mother's womb you have been my God. NCV 11 So don't be far away from me. Now trouble is near, and there is no one to help. NIV 11 Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help. NCV 12 People have surrounded me like angry bulls. Like the strong bulls of Bashan, they are on every side. NIV 12 Many bulls surround me; strong bulls of Bashan encircle me. NCV 13 Like hungry, roaring lions they open their mouths at me. NIV 13 Roaring lions tearing their prey open their mouths wide against me. NCV 14 My strength is gone, like water poured out onto the ground, and my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax; it has melted inside me. NIV 14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted away within me. NCV 15 My strength has dried up like a clay pot, and my tongue sticks to the top of my mouth. You laid me in the dust of death. NIV 15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death. NCV 16 Evil people have surrounded me; like dogs they have trapped me. They have bitten my arms and legs. NIV 16 Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet. NCV 17 I can count all my bones; people look and stare at me. NIV 17 I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me. NCV 18 They divided my clothes among them, and they threw lots for my clothing. NIV 18 They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing. NCV 19 But, Lord, don't be far away. You are my strength; hurry to help me. NIV 19 But you, O LORD, be not far off; O my Strength, come quickly to help me. NCV 20 Save me from the sword; save my life from the dogs. NIV 20 Deliver my life from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dogs. NCV 21 Rescue me from the lion's mouth; save me from the horns of the bulls. NIV 21 Rescue me from the mouth of the lions; save me from the horns of the wild oxen. NCV 22 Then I will tell my fellow Israelites about you; I will praise you in the public meeting. NIV 22 I will declare your name to my brothers; in the congregation I will praise you. NCV 23 Praise the Lord, all you who respect him. All you descendants of Jacob, honor him; fear him, all you Israelites. NIV 23 You who fear the LORD, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him! Revere him, all you descendants of Israel! NCV 24 He does not ignore those in trouble. He doesn't hide from them but listens when they call out to him. NIV 24 For he has not despised or disdained the suffering of the afflicted one; he has not hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help. NCV 25 Lord, I praise you in the great meeting of your people; these worshipers will see me do what I promised. NIV 25 From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly; before those who fear you will I fulfill my vows. NCV 26 Poor people will eat until they are full; those who look to the Lord will praise him. May your hearts live forever! NIV 26 The poor will eat and be satisfied; they who seek the LORD will praise him-- may your hearts live forever! NCV 27 People everywhere will remember and will turn to the Lord. All the families of the nations will worship him NIV 27 All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him, NCV 28 because the Lord is King, and he rules the nations. NIV 28 for dominion belongs to the LORD and he rules over the nations. NCV 29 All the powerful people on earth will eat and worship. Everyone will bow down to him, all who will one day die. NIV 29 All the rich of the earth will feast and worship; all who go down to the dust will kneel before him-- those who cannot keep themselves alive. NCV 30 The people in the future will serve him; they will always be told about the Lord. NIV 30 Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord. NCV 31 They will tell that he does what is right. People who are not yet born will hear what God has done. A psalm of David. NIV 31 They will proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn-- for he has done it.
