Psalm 22

WBT 1 To the chief Musician upon Aijeleth Shahar, A Psalm of David. My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? [why art thou so far] from helping me, [and from] the words of my roaring? NIV 1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning? WBT 2 O my God, I cry in the day-time, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent. NIV 2 O my God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, and am not silent. WBT 3 But thou [art] holy, [O thou] that inhabitest the praises of Israel. NIV 3 Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the praise of Israel. WBT 4 Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them. NIV 4 In you our fathers put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them. WBT 5 They cried to thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded. NIV 5 They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed. WBT 6 But I [am] a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised by the people. NIV 6 But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by men and despised by the people. WBT 7 All they that see me deride me: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, [saying], NIV 7 All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads: WBT 8 He trusted on the LORD [that] he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him. NIV 8 "He trusts in the LORD; let the LORD rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him." WBT 9 But thou [art] he that brought me forth into life: thou didst make me hope [when I was] upon my mother's breasts. NIV 9 Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you even at my mother's breast. WBT 10 I was cast upon thee from my birth: thou [art] my God from the time I was born. NIV 10 From birth I was cast upon you; from my mother's womb you have been my God. WBT 11 Be not far from me; for trouble [is] near; for [there is] none to help. NIV 11 Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help. WBT 12 Many bulls have compassed me: strong [bulls] of Bashan have beset me round. NIV 12 Many bulls surround me; strong bulls of Bashan encircle me. WBT 13 They gaped upon me [with] their mouths, [as] a ravening and a roaring lion. NIV 13 Roaring lions tearing their prey open their mouths wide against me. WBT 14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels. NIV 14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted away within me. WBT 15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death. NIV 15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death. WBT 16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. NIV 16 Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet. WBT 17 I may number all my bones: they look [and] stare upon me. NIV 17 I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me. WBT 18 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture. NIV 18 They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing. WBT 19 But be not thou far from me, O LORD: O my strength, haste thee to help me. NIV 19 But you, O LORD, be not far off; O my Strength, come quickly to help me. WBT 20 Deliver my soul from the sword; my darling from the power of the dog.
