Psalm 27

RHE 1 (26-1) <The psalm of David before he was anointed.> The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The Lord is the protector of my life: of whom shall I be afraid? NIV 1 The LORD is my light and my salvation-- whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life-- of whom shall I be afraid? RHE 2 (26-2) Whilst the wicked draw near against me, to eat my flesh. My enemies that trouble me, have themselves been weakened, and have fallen. NIV 2 When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall. RHE 3 (26-3) If armies in camp should stand to gether against me, my heart shall not fear. If a battle should rise up against me, in this will I be confident. NIV 3 Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident. RHE 4 (26-4) One thing I have asked of the Lord, this will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. That I may see the delight of the Lord, and may visit his temple. NIV 4 One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple. RHE 5 (26-5) For he hath hidden me in his tabernacle; in the day of evils, he hath protected me in the secret place of his tabernacle. NIV 5 For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock. RHE 6 (26-6) He hath exalted me upon a rock: and now he hath lifted up my head above my enemies. I have gone round, and have offered up in his tabernacle a sacrifice of jubilation: I will sing, and recite a psalm to the Lord. NIV 6 Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the LORD. RHE 7 (26-7) Hear, O Lord, my voice, with which I have cried to thee: have mercy on me and hear me. NIV 7 Hear my voice when I call, O LORD; be merciful to me and answer me. RHE 8 (26-8) My heart hath said to thee: My face hath sought thee: thy face, O Lord, will I still seek. NIV 8 My heart says of you, "Seek his face!" Your face, LORD, I will seek. RHE 9 (26-9) Turn not away thy face from me; decline not in thy wrath from thy servant. Be thou my helper, forsake me not; do not thou despise me, O God my Saviour. NIV 9 Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, O God my Savior. RHE 10 (26-10) For my father and my mother have left me: but the Lord hath taken me up. NIV 10 Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me. RHE 11 (26-11) Set me, O Lord, a law in thy way, and guide me in the right path, because of my enemies. NIV 11 Teach me your way, O LORD; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors. RHE 12 (26-12) Deliver me not over to the will of them that trouble me; for unjust witnesses have risen up against me; and iniquity hath lied to itself. NIV 12 Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, breathing out violence. RHE 13 (26-13) I believe to see the good things of the Lord in the land of the living. NIV 13 I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. RHE 14 (26-14) Expect the Lord, do manfully, and let thy heart take courage, and wait thou for the Lord. NIV 14 Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.
