Psalm 31

GW 1 I have taken refuge in you, O LORD. Never let me be put to shame. Save me because of your righteousness. NIV 1 In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness. GW 2 Turn your ear toward me. Rescue me quickly. Be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me. NIV 2 Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me. GW 3 Indeed, you are my rock and my fortress. For the sake of your name, lead me and guide me. NIV 3 Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me. GW 4 You are my refuge, so pull me out of the net that they have secretly laid for me. NIV 4 Free me from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge. GW 5 Into your hands I entrust my spirit. You have rescued me, O LORD, God of truth. NIV 5 Into your hands I commit my spirit; redeem me, O LORD, the God of truth. GW 6 I hate those who cling to false gods, but I trust the LORD. NIV 6 I hate those who cling to worthless idols; I trust in the LORD. GW 7 I will rejoice and be glad because of your mercy. You have seen my misery. You have known the troubles in my soul. NIV 7 I will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul. GW 8 You have not handed me over to the enemy. You have set my feet in a place where I can move freely. NIV 8 You have not handed me over to the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place. GW 9 Have pity on me, O LORD, because I am in distress. My eyes, my soul, and my body waste away from grief. NIV 9 Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and my body with grief. GW 10 My life is exhausted from sorrow, my years from groaning. My strength staggers under [the weight of] my guilt, and my bones waste away. NIV 10 My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak. GW 11 I have become a disgrace because of all my opponents. I have become someone dreaded by my friends, even by my neighbors. Those who see me on the street run away from me. NIV 11 Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbors; I am a dread to my friends-- those who see me on the street flee from me. GW 12 I have faded from memory as if I were dead and have become like a piece of broken pottery. NIV 12 I am forgotten by them as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery. GW 13 I have heard the whispering of many people-- terror on every side-- while they made plans together against me. They were plotting to take my life. NIV 13 For I hear the slander of many; there is terror on every side; they conspire against me and plot to take my life. GW 14 I trust you, O LORD. I said, "You are my God." NIV 14 But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, "You are my God." GW 15 My future is in your hands. Rescue me from my enemies, from those who persecute me. NIV 15 My times are in your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me. GW 16 Smile on me. Save me with your mercy. NIV 16 Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love. GW 17 O LORD, I have called on you, so do not let me be put to shame, Let wicked people be put to shame. Let them be silent in the grave. NIV 17 Let me not be put to shame, O LORD, for I have cried out to you; but let the wicked be put to shame and lie silent in the grave. GW 18 Let [their] lying lips be speechless, since they speak against righteous people with arrogance and contempt. NIV 18 Let their lying lips be silenced, for with pride and contempt they speak arrogantly against the righteous. GW 19 Your kindness is so great! You reserve it for those who fear you. Adam's descendants watch as you show it to those who take refuge in you. NIV 19 How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in you. GW 20 You hide them in the secret place of your presence from those who scheme against them. You keep them in a shelter, safe from quarrelsome tongues. NIV 20 In the shelter of your presence you hide them from the intrigues of men; in your dwelling you keep them safe from accusing tongues. GW 21 Thank the LORD! He has shown me the miracle of his mercy in a city under attack. NIV 21 Praise be to the LORD, for he showed his wonderful love to me when I was in a besieged city. GW 22 When I was panic-stricken, I said, "I have been cut off from your sight." But you heard my pleas for mercy when I cried out to you for help. NIV 22 In my alarm I said, "I am cut off from your sight!" Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help. GW 23 Love the LORD, all you godly ones! The LORD protects faithful people, but he pays back in full those who act arrogantly. NIV 23 Love the LORD, all his saints! The LORD preserves the faithful, but the proud he pays back in full. GW 24 Be strong, all who wait with hope for the LORD, and let your heart be courageous. NIV 24 Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.
