Psalm 31

RHE 1 (30-1) <Unto the end, a psalm for David, in an ecstasy.> (30-2) In thee, O Lord, have I hoped, let me never be confounded: deliver me in thy justice. NIV 1 In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness. RHE 2 (30-3) Bow down thy ear to me: make haste to deliver me. Be thou unto me a God, a protector, and a house of refuge, to save me. NIV 2 Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me. RHE 3 (30-4) For thou art my strength and my refuge; and for thy name’s sake thou wilt lead me, and nourish me. NIV 3 Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me. RHE 4 (30-5) Thou wilt bring me out of this snare, which they have hidden for me: for thou art my protector. NIV 4 Free me from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge. RHE 5 (30-6) Into thy hands I commend my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O Lord, the God of truth. NIV 5 Into your hands I commit my spirit; redeem me, O LORD, the God of truth. RHE 6 (30-7) Thou hast hated them that regard vanities, to no purpose. But I have hoped in the Lord: NIV 6 I hate those who cling to worthless idols; I trust in the LORD. RHE 7 (30-8) I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy. For thou hast regarded my humility, thou hast saved my soul out of distresses. NIV 7 I will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul. RHE 8 (30-9) And thou hast not shut me up in the hands of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a spacious place. NIV 8 You have not handed me over to the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place. RHE 9 (30-10) Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am afflicted: my eye is troubled with wrath, my soul, and my belly: NIV 9 Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and my body with grief. RHE 10 (30-11) For my life is wasted with grief: and my years in sighs. My strength is weakened through poverty and my bones are disturbed. NIV 10 My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak. RHE 11 (30-12) I am become a reproach among all my enemies, and very much to my neighbours; and a fear to my acquaintance. They that saw me without fled from me. NIV 11 Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbors; I am a dread to my friends-- those who see me on the street flee from me. RHE 12 (30-13) I am forgotten as one dead from the heart. I am become as a vessel that is destroyed. NIV 12 I am forgotten by them as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery. RHE 13 (30-14) For I have heard the blame of many that dwell round about. While they assembled together against me, they consulted to take away my life. NIV 13 For I hear the slander of many; there is terror on every side; they conspire against me and plot to take my life. RHE 14 (30-15) But I have put my trust in thee, O Lord: I said: Thou art my God. NIV 14 But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, "You are my God." RHE 15 (30-16) My lots are in thy hands. Deliver me out of the hands of my enemies; and from them that persecute me. NIV 15 My times are in your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me. RHE 16 (30-17) Make thy face to shine upon thy servant; save me in thy mercy. NIV 16 Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love. RHE 17 (30-18) Let me not be confounded, O Lord, for I have called upon thee. Let the wicked be ashamed, and be brought down to hell. NIV 17 Let me not be put to shame, O LORD, for I have cried out to you; but let the wicked be put to shame and lie silent in the grave. RHE 18 (30-19) Let deceitful lips be made dumb. Which speak iniquity against the just, with pride and abuse. NIV 18 Let their lying lips be silenced, for with pride and contempt they speak arrogantly against the righteous. RHE 19 (30-20) O how great is the multitude of thy sweetness, O Lord, which thou hast hidden for them that fear thee! Which thou hast wrought for them that hope in thee, in the sight of the sons of men. NIV 19 How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in you. RHE 20 (30-21) Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy face, from the disturbance of men. Thou shalt protect them in thy tabernacle form the contradiction of tongues. NIV 20 In the shelter of your presence you hide them from the intrigues of men; in your dwelling you keep them safe from accusing tongues. RHE 21 (30-22) Blessed be the Lord, for he hath shewn his wonderful mercy to me in a fortified city. NIV 21 Praise be to the LORD, for he showed his wonderful love to me when I was in a besieged city. RHE 22 (30-23) But I said in the excess of my mind: I am cast away from before thy eyes. Therefore thou hast heard the voice of my prayer, when I cried to thee. NIV 22 In my alarm I said, "I am cut off from your sight!" Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help. RHE 23 (30-24) O love the Lord, all ye his saints: for the Lord will require truth, and will repay them abundantly that act proudly. NIV 23 Love the LORD, all his saints! The LORD preserves the faithful, but the proud he pays back in full. RHE 24 (30-25) Do ye manfully, and let your heart be strengthened, all ye that hope in the Lord. NIV 24 Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.
