Psalm 31

WBT 1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness. NIV 1 In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness. WBT 2 Bow down thy ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for a house of defense to save me. NIV 2 Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me. WBT 3 For thou [art] my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me. NIV 3 Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me. WBT 4 Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou [art] my strength. NIV 4 Free me from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge. WBT 5 Into thy hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth. NIV 5 Into your hands I commit my spirit; redeem me, O LORD, the God of truth. WBT 6 I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the LORD. NIV 6 I hate those who cling to worthless idols; I trust in the LORD. WBT 7 I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities; NIV 7 I will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul. WBT 8 And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my foot in a large room. NIV 8 You have not handed me over to the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place. WBT 9 Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble: my eye is consumed with grief, [yes], my soul and my belly. NIV 9 Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and my body with grief. WBT 10 For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of my iniquity, and my bones are consumed. NIV 10 My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak. WBT 11 I was a reproach among all my enemies, but especially among my neighbors, and a fear to my acquaintance: they that saw me without fled from me. NIV 11 Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbors; I am a dread to my friends-- those who see me on the street flee from me. WBT 12 I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel. NIV 12 I am forgotten by them as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery. WBT 13 For I have heard the slander of many: fear [was] on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life. NIV 13 For I hear the slander of many; there is terror on every side; they conspire against me and plot to take my life. WBT 14 But I trusted in thee, O LORD: I said, Thou [art] my God. NIV 14 But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, "You are my God." WBT 15 My times [are] in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of my enemies, and from them that persecute me. NIV 15 My times are in your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me. WBT 16 Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me for thy mercies' sake. NIV 16 Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love. WBT 17 Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave. NIV 17 Let me not be put to shame, O LORD, for I have cried out to you; but let the wicked be put to shame and lie silent in the grave. WBT 18 Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous. NIV 18 Let their lying lips be silenced, for with pride and contempt they speak arrogantly against the righteous. WBT 19 [Oh] how great [is] thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; [which] thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men! NIV 19 How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in you. WBT 20 Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues. NIV 20 In the shelter of your presence you hide them from the intrigues of men; in your dwelling you keep them safe from accusing tongues. WBT 21 Blessed [be] the LORD: for he hath showed me his wonderful kindness in a strong city. NIV 21 Praise be to the LORD, for he showed his wonderful love to me when I was in a besieged city. WBT 22 For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thy eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried to thee. NIV 22 In my alarm I said, "I am cut off from your sight!" Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help. WBT 23 O love the LORD, all ye his saints: [for] the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer. NIV 23 Love the LORD, all his saints! The LORD preserves the faithful, but the proud he pays back in full. WBT 24 Be of good courage, and he will strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD. NIV 24 Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.
