Psalm 33

ESV 1 Shout for joy in the LORD, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright. NIV 1 Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. ESV 2 Give thanks to the LORD with the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings! NIV 2 Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. ESV 3 Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts. NIV 3 Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. ESV 4 For the word of the LORD is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. NIV 4 For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. ESV 5 He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the LORD. NIV 5 The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love. ESV 10 The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples. NIV 10 The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. ESV 11 The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations. NIV 11 But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. ESV 12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage! NIV 12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance. ESV 13 The LORD looks down from heaven; he sees all the children of man; NIV 13 From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind; ESV 14 from where he sits enthroned he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth, NIV 14 from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth-- ESV 15 he who fashions the hearts of them all and observes all their deeds. NIV 15 he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do. ESV 16 The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength. NIV 16 No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. ESV 17 The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and by its great might it cannot rescue. NIV 17 A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save. ESV 18 Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, NIV 18 But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, ESV 19 that he may deliver their soul from death and keep them alive in famine.
