Psalm 37

DBY 1 {[A Psalm] of David.} Fret not thyself because of evil-doers, and be not envious of them that work unrighteousness; NIV 1 Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong; DBY 2 for they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and fade as the green herb. NIV 2 for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away. DBY 3 Confide in Jehovah, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on faithfulness; NIV 3 Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. DBY 4 and delight thyself in Jehovah, and he will give thee the desires of thy heart. NIV 4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. DBY 5 Commit thy way unto Jehovah, and rely upon him: he will bring [it] to pass; NIV 5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: DBY 6 and he will bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. NIV 6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. DBY 7 Rest in Jehovah, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him that prospereth in his way, because of the man that bringeth mischievous devices to pass. NIV 7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. DBY 8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; fret not thyself: it [would be] only to do evil. NIV 8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret--it leads only to evil. DBY 9 For evil-doers shall be cut off; but those that wait on Jehovah, they shall possess the land. NIV 9 For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land. DBY 10 For yet a little while, and the wicked is not; and thou considerest his place, but he is not. NIV 10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found. DBY 11 But the meek shall possess the land, and shall delight themselves in the abundance of prosperity. NIV 11 But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace. DBY 12 The wicked plotteth against the righteous, and gnasheth his teeth against him. NIV 12 The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them; DBY 13 The Lord laugheth at him; for he seeth that his day is coming. NIV 13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming. DBY 14 The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the afflicted and needy, to slay those that are upright in [the] way: NIV 14 The wicked draw the sword and bend the bow to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose ways are upright. DBY 15 their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken. NIV 15 But their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken. DBY 16 The little that the righteous hath is better than the abundance of many wicked; NIV 16 Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth of many wicked; DBY 17 for the arms of the wicked shall be broken, but Jehovah upholdeth the righteous. NIV 17 for the power of the wicked will be broken, but the LORD upholds the righteous. DBY 18 Jehovah knoweth the days of the perfect; and their inheritance shall be for ever: NIV 18 The days of the blameless are known to the LORD, and their inheritance will endure forever. DBY 19 they shall not be ashamed in the time of evil, and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied. NIV 19 In times of disaster they will not wither; in days of famine they will enjoy plenty. DBY 20 For the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of Jehovah shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume, like smoke shall they consume away. NIV 20 But the wicked will perish: The LORD's enemies will be like the beauty of the fields, they will vanish--vanish like smoke. DBY 21 The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again; but the righteous is gracious and giveth: NIV 21 The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous give generously; DBY 22 for those blessed of him shall possess the land, and they that are cursed of him shall be cut off. NIV 22 those the LORD blesses will inherit the land, but those he curses will be cut off. DBY 23 The steps of a man are established by Jehovah, and he delighteth in his way: NIV 23 If the LORD delights in a man's way, he makes his steps firm; DBY 24 though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down, for Jehovah upholdeth his hand. NIV 24 though he stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand. DBY 25 I have been young, and now am old, and I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed seeking bread: NIV 25 I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. DBY 26 all the day he is gracious and lendeth, and his seed shall be a blessing. NIV 26 They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be blessed. DBY 27 Depart from evil, and do good, and dwell for evermore; NIV 27 Turn from evil and do good; then you will dwell in the land forever. DBY 28 for Jehovah loveth judgment, and will not forsake his saints: They are preserved for ever; but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off. NIV 28 For the LORD loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones. They will be protected forever, but the offspring of the wicked will be cut off; DBY 29 The righteous shall possess the land, and dwell therein for ever. NIV 29 the righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it forever. DBY 30 The mouth of the righteous proffereth wisdom, and his tongue speaketh judgment; NIV 30 The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks what is just. DBY 31 the law of his God is in his heart; his goings shall not slide. NIV 31 The law of his God is in his heart; his feet do not slip. DBY 32 The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him: NIV 32 The wicked lie in wait for the righteous, seeking their very lives; DBY 33 Jehovah will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged. NIV 33 but the LORD will not leave them in their power or let them be condemned when brought to trial. DBY 34 Wait for Jehovah, and keep his way, and he will exalt thee to possess the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see [it]. NIV 34 Wait for the LORD and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you will see it. DBY 35 I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading like a green tree in its native soil: NIV 35 I have seen a wicked and ruthless man flourishing like a green tree in its native soil, DBY 36 but he passed away, and behold, he was not; and I sought him, but he was not found. NIV 36 but he soon passed away and was no more; though I looked for him, he could not be found. DBY 37 Mark the perfect, and behold the upright, for the end of [that] man is peace; NIV 37 Consider the blameless, observe the upright; there is a future for the man of peace. DBY 38 but the transgressors shall be destroyed together; the future of the wicked shall be cut off. NIV 38 But all sinners will be destroyed; the future of the wicked will be cut off. DBY 39 But the salvation of the righteous is of Jehovah: he is their strength in the time of trouble. NIV 39 The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD; he is their stronghold in time of trouble. DBY 40 And Jehovah will help them and deliver them: he will deliver them from the wicked, and save them; for they trust in him. NIV 40 The LORD helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him.
